Loved and respected the length and breadth of the land.
A true legend of the footballing world
The tributes have come rolling in,and rightly so,for this true gentleman
Delightful memories being relayed about him on 5 Live with another legend,Jimmy Armfield, contributing.
R.I.P. Sir Tom.

Bill Shankly always said that Tom Finney was the greatest ever - and Bill wasn't wrong about many things
A sad loss of a great British icon _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Tommy Finney was one of a couple of players I would have given anything to have seen. Him and Big Duncan.
Found this 90th birthday tribute...he really had no airs and graces at all. Ever since I was a kid, the name Preston, has always been synonymous with the name of Tom Finney. And from what I've heard today, I'm certainly not the only one. Legend is an overused word, especially these days, but in Tom's case, it was certainly true.

Born in the street next to the Deepdale stadium, that's lovely and says it all. An era when football clubs had their local identity with local players, certainly a contrast to today when the wealthier clubs are infested with overpaid foreign ignoramuses who have no emotional attachment to their clubs. |

Sadly it's a different game (business) altogether these days,S'man
On the radio yesterday Jimmy Armfield said he used to walk to the match with his mates when he was playing and on the way back they would comment, good or bad, on how he had played that day and that Tom Finney used to work in his father's plumbing shop in the morning then go to play in a match in the afternoon
When Michael Owen played for Newcastle a helicopter used to pick him up every day, to take him to training,a friend told me the other day. |

I can confirm that Becky
I live about 5 miles from the Owen mansion and every weekday morning the helicopter used to fly directly over here in a North Easterly direction - you could almost set your watch by it
You're absolutely right that it's a different world from that in Sir Tom's day which reminds me - when are we going to see the promised limitation on the number of foreign players in Premier League teams which was talked about a couple of seasons ago
Brendan Rogers has gone out of his way to give local British young players a chance to the point where around half of Liverpool's regular first team is made up of British players but watching Manchester City v Chelsea yesterday I counted only one British player for Chelsea and only two for Man City in the starting line up _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
