Just waiting for Ruddles to pop up and say there's already a thread about Graham Norton, last post only 16 months ago Laughing

I don't get to listen very long, very often, but yes, he's OK.

I think he's really good. It's very strange considering his past work, but he seems totally at home on the BBC and audience figures reflect that.

I too was surprised when he first took over the slot. I think he 'went off' a bit after his break last summer, or maybe Ryan Tubridy was too good! Back to form now I'd say though.

We often do a long journey Saturday mornings and usually enjoy his guests.

He did play a Shaky album track a while back as part of the "Tune With A Tale" feature so he can't be that bad!

I don't mind him either... well at least I don't reach for the internet button. I find his views on some of the "what should I do" section quite funny! and, I like hearing"that woman's" ( don't know who she is Embarassed ) opinions too.
Yes, thumbs up!

Ron, I deliberately didn't comment on this thread just to annoy you Laughing

Only joking by the way - but you do make a very good point Smile

There's a big old barrel of those to get through - scraping the bottom will be fun.
Actually he plays quite a few that would qualify during the rest of the show Laughing

I'm amazed he's not leaving over the huge budget cut. Might have to cut his wages. Very Happy

Well worth a watch last night for Gerard Depardieu alone...his sniffing made me wonder if he had been doing something he shouldn't before he came on .. Twisted Evil Damian Lewis (he's off for a meal with Obama don't you know?) and Dominic West were good value too with Olly Murs bravely trying (and mostly succeeding it has to be said) to keep up with such illustrious guests and Graham of course.... Very Happy

I used to listen, but now have Danny Baker on Five Live at that time, chiefly because I didn't care much for the music that was played. If he had Andy, who used to be with Wossy, picking the music, then it'd be perfect.

I do enjoy his chat show, though.

For the majority of shows it's not wages that are being cut - it's people. There are fewer staff working on shows than there used to be.

Graham has reportedly accepted reductions to his contract, twice, over the past couple of years.

"Will I take a pay cut? Absolutely. God yes. There should be no special cases. The cutbacks at the BBC are across the board, which is how it should be.

"OK, I'm not thrilled at the prospect of a cut. I won't open a bottle of Cava to celebrate. But I'm realistic about the future of the BBC and how things have to be. I just have to keep going until my wages get to a level where I kind of go, 'I'm not going to do that anymore.' "

Graham can't understand why people are so critical of the BBC's spending - which is funded by the TV licence - and thinks more should be done to "protect" the network.

He added in an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We know what the BBC pays every on-screen person - presenter, actor, weatherman, extra, newsreader, dancer - and it's something tiny like 8% of the overall licence fee.

The country should be proud of the BBC and you'd think the Government would be bending over backwards to protect it. My fear is that people will wake up when it's too late, saying, 'Remember when it was great?'. By then it will be operating out of two Portakabins in Leeds."

When you fund something you don't expect people to get huge paypackets. It's like the banks, you invest in a bank, put wages in etc etc, you don't expect the bank boss to have a huge £5 Million + bonus to help his wealth. We the licence payer sure need good quality programmes, we need quality nurses, but they don't ask for Million pound to do that, and probably worthy that more than some who work with in aunty beeb.

Hmm. I know this is not the place to discuss bank bonuses, but since you've brought it up, Mark - It's not quite as simple as that.
Robert Peston has had three bashes at it today, and I don't think he's finished yet.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17313182

My observation is that, it is all very well for politicians, the media and the insurance companies and pension funds who have large shareholdings in the banks, to take the moral high ground and bray about the performance bonuses which have, to varying degrees, been earned, paid and accepted, or not, but they should be careful, lest some of the talent which has steered two of our banks through the crisis and are trading profitably, and which are trying to sort the other two out, don't suddenly decide they've had enough and walk away, or take up posts with banks overseas, in countries which don't have so many voluble qualms.

The CE of Lloyds was ill and took time off last year - remember the consternation and fear about the bank's performance, and the effect on the share price that had?
What if Bob Diamond was to be head-hunted and go back to the US, or off to Germany or China, or anywhere? Can you imagine what effect that might have on the stability of Barclays, and its share price? Everyone would be braying out of the other orifice if that were to happen.

I do like Norton's show, though I tend to only hear the final 2 hours as I also listen to Steve Royle on Radio Lancashire.

Anyway, today there were a couple of great interviews with Matt Parker & Trey Stone (creators of Book of Mormon) and Sam Raimi (director of Oz The Great And Powerful). It was good to hear about the creation of stuff rather than just an actor coming in and saying how wonderful everything is. Really got a glimpse of life behind the scenes with these engaging guests.

I have already sent Graham a suggestion for next week's " I can't believe it's not better" spot on his programme

About 2 records into his programme this morning he played what I thought was an awful sound...didn't know who it was until it had finished when Graham said it was Cheryl Cole's latest release.

I will probably forget to look but I would be interested to see how this fairs in the charts.

I can't believe that the wonderful Softly Whispering I Love You by The Congregation was played in the "I can't believe it's not better" spot, this morning. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Besides loving the song I love the vocal on it by Brian Keith.

I found that hard to believe. It was an early favourite of mine all those years ago when it was around. I still like it now.

It's not a bad song, though the screeching tuneless guitar solo did annoy me.
