Sounds like this could be a good concert from, I think, the Royal Festival Hall on BBC4 at 9pm.
A friend of ours saw him last year at Bridgewater Hall and said it was superb so I've set the recorder.
It's sandwiched between 2 other 'Easy Listening' shows which I'm not sure if I've seen before as they sound a bit familiar.

I've set it to record...thanks,Helen.
It'll be interesting to hear how the songs sound with different singers. I like this version of Kentucky Bluebird that Burt did with Rufus Wainwright a few years ago.

Burt was asked on The One Show (a few weeks ago) what his (own) favourite song is and he replied, Alfie.
With Virgin when you press on any programme on the menu it tells you when the programme was first aired. The Easy Listening programmes on tonight were first aired in 2011. |

This followed the same format as the Don Black programme a while ago that was discussed on here.
Not all the covers on this programme were to my taste but a few were. Justin Hayward sounded lovely as did Laura Mvula who has the most gorgeous voice. I thought the woman from Burt's band who sang Anyone Who Had A Heart did a terrific version. I also enjoyed Shaun Escofferyand Michael Kiwanuka singing their versions of Burt's (and Hal's) songs.
The voice has all but gone but Burt singing Alfie was just gorgeous...he put so much into it he looked to be in tears at the end of it.
There were favourites of mine that I would have liked included but all in all I enjoyed this nostalgic look back on a magnificent catalogue of songs. |
