I was so very sorry and a little shocked to hear this sad news, especially as I had read this just last month in The Guardian:
"Johan Cruyff believes he is “2-0 up” and will eventually win his “match” with lung cancer.
The former Ajax, Barcelona and Holland star said in a statement on his official website: “After several medical treatments I can say that the results have been very positive, thanks to the excellent work of the doctors, the affection of the people and my positive mentality.
Right now, I have the feeling that I am 2-0 up in the first half of a match that has not finished yet. But I am sure that I will end up winning.”

I took from that that he was on the mend.
He was wonderful player who gave so much pleasure to the world of football.

Agreed Becky - the man was one of the best - very sad to witness the passing of yet another star far too young _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

No one will ever better the 'total football' of that Dutch team of 1974--sheer entertainment.
By the way, I don't know why the BBC news yesterday had his death as the last item, as if it was not important, giving more prominence to Adam Johnson's jail sentence |
