Sad to see on the BBC website that Marni Nixon has died ...she was 86.
Nixon died of breast cancer on Sunday, her agent confirmed to the BBC.
For most of her career, the classically-trained musician remained unknown. Twentieth Century Fox made her sign a contract saying she would never reveal the ghost-singing on The King and I. The story only came out later, when Kerr herself credited Nixon's work in a press interview.
We had a thread on here in the TV section about how she (and others) stood in,vocally, for lots of stars including Audrey Hepburn, Deborah Kerr and Natalie Wood in blockbusting Hollywood musicals.

From her first marriage to Ernest Gold, who composed the beautiful theme to the film Exodus, she had a son,Andrew, who was an American singer, songwriter, musician and arranger. He had hits with Never Let Her Slip Away,Lonely Boy and Thank You For Being a Friend, amongst others. Sadly he predeceased her at age 59 in 2011.

I didn't know that Andrew Gold was her son (or that he had passed away). |

It was only when he passed away that I realised that she was his mother.
