Have just heard that Jimmy Young died today age 95.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37903108

His was probably the first programme I ever listened to on Radio 2 when I was off work with flu back in 1979 and listened whenever I could after that as it was so interesting!

RIP

H

He made Jeremy Vine look like a complete amateur - I was really sorry to here this sad news - but looking on the bright side he had a great and varied life ranging from films to music and current affairs

I'll be very happy if I reach anywhere near his age - RIP Jim Sad

I always enjoyed the JY prog as there was such variation in the content but also those regular features for the Legal Eagle and "What's the recipe today, Jim?"and loved his handovers to Wogan back in the day.

TTFN and RIP Jim.

Sad news.Sad

This is on Radio 2 now.

In tribute to the late Sir Jimmy Young, another chance to hear him look back at his astonishing career with one-time sparring partner, Ken Bruce.

Sir Jimmy Young talks to Ken Bruce about his singing years and radio decades, in an interview first broadcast on the day before his 90th birthday.

From baker's boy in Cinderford, Gloucestershire (at one time stopped by the police for driving underage), via the wartime Royal Air Force, and work as a pianist in night clubs and dance bands, Jim became a hugely successful singer and pop star in the 50s - the first British act to have two consecutive number ones.
