Really sad news Becky - of all the so called 'boy bands' The Monkees were probably the first and certainly a lot better than some of the later ones and Davy played a major part

He'll be sadly missed - as they are mentioning right now on North West Tonight

Apparently he was born in 1945 which means he died at the age of 66 - the same age as my dad died and far too young Sad

I was stunned and very sad, when the six o'clock news announced it. I only saw him in a Boy Band programme aweek or so ago. It always struck me how healthy and happy he seemed.

We saw The Monkees last year (they have always been my wife's favourite band) and Davy didn't stop throughout the whole show. He certainly looked and sounded the fittest of them, by miles.

Just goes to show how indiscriminately and suddenly these things can happen.

Very sad news, I liked the Monkees and their songs. Like Oldraver we saw Davy Jones on the programme about boy bands only a few days ago, its hard to believe that he has died now.

There is a programme called 'Last Word' on Friday afternoons on Radio 4 and its an obituary to famous or important people who have passed away during that week. Every week I hope that they won't have anyone to include in it, but unfortunately every week they do.

The Monkees TV show was one of the first I ever made a point of watching, I felt it really was made for me and my generation. In fact, I recorded most shows on my portable Kossor reel to reel tape player and we'd listen to it again later that night whilst hanging around on street corners as you did back then..

Someone on the POV boards said let's all link arms and do the 'Monkee walk' in tribute ...made me smile....listening to them and watching footage of the four together always made me feel happy

What very sad and unexpected news. I always used to enjoy the Monkees TV shows. They were really good fun. When I saw "Oliver" in London in the 1960s, Davy Jones played the Artful Dodger.

Yes, very sad news. They somehow epitomised the carefree days of the late 60s.
Helen: 'Daydream Believer' was my favourite too. I've had it in my head all evening. And 'A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You'.
'I Want To Be Free' showed what a good singer he was.

Remember guys he wasn't the lead singer as some people think he was. They were going to get together for some more concerts, but apparently had so many arguments. Still tragic news.

He was certainly the lead singer and performer in the live concert we saw.

The reports were that, yes, they were arguing but also that Dolenz had gone into rehab.

I played Daydream Believer a couple of times last night. Searched Spotify and remembered their version of 'Yes I Will' (Hollies song) from, I think, their first album which my friend had and would come round to my house to listen to it! I bet the kids of today don't do that.............

Of course he was the lead singer Mark. Were you there at the time??

I remember back in 1968 my best friend's sister was totally obsessed with the Monkees and frequently announced that she wanted to marry Davy Jones Shocked

Me and her brother could never get any peace at his house so quite often he used to end up staying overnight with me and my parents

He's still one of my best friends today and he phoned me last night telling me that even 45 years on his sister was still really upset on hearing the sad news which just goes to show how fondly he was loved and undoubtedly will never be forgotten in the memories of many people Sad

He was honoured at Lingfield Races today

Lingfield name races in honour of jockey and Monkees’ Davy Jones
Jones, who died of a reported heart attack in the United States on Wednesday aged 66, was an apprentice jockey in Newmarket in his teens and achieved a long-held ambition when he rode Digpast to victory at Lingfield in 1996.

The track have remembered Jones by naming the first race today the Hey, Hey We’re The Monkees Handicap, in memory of one of the band’s biggest hits, and the second race the In Memory of Davy Jones Selling Stakes.

Hearing their music, unfailingly, makes the day brighter for me ....that's a lovely legacy for anyone to leave..

I went to the new musical Monkee Business this week and had a damn fine time... even though, really, the show was a bit rubbish.

It's a convoluted plot but does include 18 brilliant Monkees songs (and one by The Beatles Rolling Eyes

) that are performed very well by four talented lads. But the script's rubbish, the ending's a mess, and it's quite slow.

The Manchester run is dedicated to Davy Jones, and his family were in the front row of the circle - so all the audience were able to give Davy a loud standing ovation for them. Which was lovely, and clearly quite emotional for the cast.

7 years on from Davy's death and now the sad news that Peter Tork has died aged 77. Crying or Very sad

Again we are reminded what a happy sound they brought us with their songs.

A lovely remembrance of him last night on 5 Live from two men who knew him ...Bobby Hart and Peter Mills.

Those songs and all the others we played went down well and the audience was very enthusiastic. Our MC gave a little tribute to Peter before we played the first one. They were on our playlist anyway so it was by chance that they coincided with Peter's death.
