Thanks for mentioning that Becky
Although I'm not a fan of that show I will be watching tonight assuming James's voice has recovered sufficiently for them to perform after having to cancel the Radio 2 In Concert gig arranged for last Thursday
I enjoyed hearing their 2007 Glastonbury headlining set again and can't wait for January 27th to come round for the rearranged Radio 2 show
They are also scheduled to play in Birmingham on 14th December rearranged from October _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

The segment was obviously pre-recorded and dropped in on TX. They also mimed to the track - as is often the case on Strictly. |

Tonight's segment (in terms of presentation style) wasn't really that representative of the Manics - they're much grittier that they came across on Strictly, but I guess it's a priceless opportunity to plug new material to the widest possible audience. And given that they'll never appear on the X-Factor (largely because the four "judges" there are clueless where non-plastic music is concerned) this is a good platform. |

Yes Colin I soon clocked that
It would be surprising for a Radio 2 gig to be cancelled through illness and then for the same artists to appear on a peak time TV show three days later
I am told even the rearranged Birmingham gig next week could be cancelled for a second time but I know the lads will do their very best to avoid this happening
I think the fact is the record company has been pushing them to and possibly beyond their limits in promoting the latest album and really they need to take a break for a few weeks
I guess the music business has always been like that which might explain why some of the newer artists seem to burn themselves out so quickly
There again it might just because they are just not good enough _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I'm glad you enjoyed it Becky but I don't think that single is particularly representative of the Manics music and I think it is one of the least strong tracks on the new album in musical terms though because of its obvious commerciallity it was always going to be a single
Personally I prefer them doing heavier edgier music but as people get older I guess they usually mellow quite a bit
I still think that their debut album Generation Terrorists is without doubt the finest debut album I have heard by any artist but as a long term Manics fan my tastes may well be rather different to those of a mainstream Sunday night TV audience
Thanks for mentioning the show though _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Now that is a frightening thought _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

The whole thing looked really phoney. It was obviously recorded mid-afternoon, and it looked like they got in, did their camera blocking, recorded their bit and then got out quick.
They just didn't look comfortable. Can't say I blame them, though; make the most of the publicity!
I thought the song was pretty bland, btw. Not what I would call a great Manics number.

Although Ian is alleged to be on the original recording Avid I have seen the Manics four times recently and on no occasion has there been any sign of him
I don't think his presence is really vital to the track being performed but its not really one of my preferred ones anyway
There are some great tracks on the latest album though well worth a listen if you get the chance _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

what on earth are the Manics doing on SCD anyway? I know they are not trying to bring down the government any more but it is still a little odd to see them on there. _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Put it this way Dis I don't think the're going to rush to do it again
As has been pointed out the track was prerecorded and probably that would have been the precondition for them doing it at all
They certainly didn't look comfortable about it and it clearly wasn't their idea
To be honest if I was in their position I think I would have turned the thing down altogether
They're still a fantastic band live though but not really TV performers _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I have seen them 2 / times and it wasn't until the last time that I started to like them again after losing interest in them after motorcycle emptiness.
Yes I agree they aren't bad live, they don't seem to be that bad a bunch of blokes Nicky especially, I watched an interview with him and Tony Benn recently which I quite liked.
I think they are a big enough band to turn down things if they don't want to do it, I wonder whethere one of their wives liked the show so they played ? _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

I'm sure that primetime Saturday night telly was too much of a lure - especially when there's new product to promote! |

I suppose that's possible but I think more likely they were pressured to do it either by their management or the record company who probably want to ensure that continued investment in a 90s band will still generate the required results
They're all nice blokes- my mate used to play in a band in Newport called Freudian Slip and got to know the Manics quite well
In those days in the late 80s sometimes he used to get bigger audiences than they did and we still laugh about it now
I used to do a lot of work in South Wales which involved overnight stays and I remember going to see them in places like Blackwood Abergavenny and Newport long before they became famous and I knew then they would go places
Probably one of the few things in life I've been right about _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Then you would have liked the set they played when I saw them at the Heavenly night, they supported thes Doves and only played their really early stuff like Stay Beautiful, it was a full on Manics punk set just like I remember when I first heard them on the evening session when Mark Goodyear presented in _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Sounds like a great gig Dis
I don't dislike their recent releases but still prefer the early stuff
On their recent British tour I went to see them in Liverpool,Newport, Leicester and Carlisle and they played quite a few early tracks including The Masses against the Classes and of course their first ever single Motown Junk plus a couple of tracks off The Holy Bible album
They were on stage for nearly two hours supported by British Sea Power who were also excellent and I'm thinking I might go to the Birmingham gig on 14th December if it is not cancelled either through illness or the weather
They played in Cambridge on 1st December not far from you but if you get chance go and see them next time round and I guarantee you won't be disappointed _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
