I was listening to Jeremy Vine today about care in the community, and keeping warm during the winter. Someone mentioned about keeping the oven door open once switched off to heat your property. Who else thinks this is a good idea?

I've been doing that for many years

I'm surprised anyone should have to mention it on Radio 2

It's simply ordinary common sense

It's indicative of the tabloid-standard nonsense you get on the JV show these days.

Very sensible advice except what happens when your oven conks out!-mine did last week.

Cooker repair came round to fix it today-£247 pounds later.

Mark - Do you not have something like Domestic and General insurance? You can insure upto so many electrical appliances.

Up to how many, Marko? That seems a lot to me.

I think it's about 5 electrical items. They have to be about 5 years or less old.

I'm sure a cold oven is included.

Product insurance or extended warrany as it is more commonly known is a complete rip off almost in the category of loan protection insurance

There are so many exceptions to the cover it amounts to paying a great deal of money for virtually nothing
It would be more cost effective to replace your product every three years so please do not get conned with this type of thing
Its bad news Crying or Very sad

Most large electrical appliances should last more than three years. EU law requires manufacturers to keep spares available for items up to ten years old.

Well anyone who knows stuff will tell you that it makes no difference at all whether you leave the oven door open or not. If you leave the door open, the heat in the oven dissipates more quickly than it does if you leave the oven door shut. It does make it feel warmer in the short term but overall it’s no warmer. Simple physics really. The heat in the oven will all dissipate into your house- they don’t stay warm forever when you switch em off and leave the door closed- do they? No. So where does the heat go? Homework in by Friday please.

Exactly. Think of those mugs in the cupboard next to it; keep 'em warm to save them from chattering together! Smile

I always open the oven door when I've finished cooking - it's easier to get the food out...
