I hope that doesn't mean he's leaving his regular weekend gigs on Planet Rock. His "Another Dimension" is a superb diversion to the rubbish served up by Radio 2 on Sundays. I'd hate to think he's leaving a decent station to join a crappy station like Smooth.

Smooth looks like they moving in a different direction with their presenters. Simon Bates, Pat Sharp and now David Jensen. Who's next to join.

Dunno, but I can't see how the other two (Bates and Sharp) can in any way be considered an asset. It looks like a 1980s Radio One Old Boys Club.

Jensen is a much better broadcaster than those two has-beens and has a musical knowledge that's way out front (that's why I like his Planet Rock shows).

"Smooth" should be renamed "Sickly"!!!!

Nobody will even notice because Carlos sounds exactly like Mike Read so they'll just think they have a full complement of former Radio 1 jocks

I was going to ask how this affects Rick's Place and Another Dimension on Planet Rock!

I listened in to Smooth during the week and thought it was Tony Blackburn!

I have only just started listening, but I think Lynn Parsons at breakfast is very good. Not too obtrusive, doesn't waffle, namechecks the records (even tho they are all so well known they hardly need it). A true radio professional, very rare on Breakfast Radio in the UK. I am sad to hear she will soon be replaced by Simon Bates just as I have found a Breakfast radio show I can happilly listen to

Going by some of the discussion on Rick's Place and also on the PR website, I think David Jensen will still be working with Planet Rock in the New Year. I certainly hope so.

I asked him the question on his facebook page. In not so many words he was pushed out. He will be back somewhere soon.

Looks like it'll be 4 April according to Radio Today:

Smooth Radio have also confirmed the start date for new signing David Jensen, whose arrival was announced back in December. He'll begin his weekday afternoon show on 4 April, and will also host a 'Double Top 20' chart show on Sunday evenings. The two-hour programme will feature two different top 20 countdowns from a particular week and year.

Yet another classic chart rundown show as well, there aren't nearly enough of these!!

I hope this doesn't mean that he won't be doing his Saturday and Sunday AM shows on Planet Rock, although it does look that way!

I won't be listening to Smooth as it's utter crap!

I've only listened to Smooth during the Golden Hour, and that's really only for old times sake. The rest of the time you're in danger of nodding off when its on.

WARNING: Do not listen to Smooth Radio whilst operating heavy machinery.

She does a have a smooth voice. I wonder how many more different DJ names they can hire?

According to Radio Rewind her real surname is Battersby, and Radio Today say it's Boughton.
I would expect Carlos was keeping Sundays warm until they found someone.

Well Colin he's certainly not 'The Jackal'

He's a nice guy and a very good presenter who just happens to sound absolutely identical to Mike Read when he used to do Pop Quiz and all that mullarkey

Don't worry, Mark. I was only joking. I think Smooth's re-branding to "Sickly" can't come a day too soon.

Listened to the whole of the first Double Top Twenty Show today

Overall I thought it was fairly good although I thought Jensen's dialogue was a little stilted but I imagine that might be if the show is prerecorded just like used to be the case with POTP until recently

However the music played was good from the years 1970 and 1977 with many tracks rarely played on Radio 2 like Picketywitch, Bernie Flint, Mary Macgregor and one of the lesser known hits by the Rubettes

I got the impression that their practice was to play tracks going up the chart irrespective of whether they were well known or not and I eagerly await to see what tracks get played when they cover 1975

I think to some extent we are spoiled by the quality of TB's presentation on POTP but this offering from Smooth was a good start and I'll certainly be listening on a regular basis Smile
