|
|
After Radio 2 axed the 1920s/30s Dance Band section of Malcolm Laycock's show I decided to produce a show for friends who are dance band fans, until the Beeb re-instate our favourite music.
I'm recording shows of dance band music using my own 78rpm records.
The 78s are not mint but mostly in fine condition, with just a little 'noise'. I'm going to try and do a show every week, available each Friday for seven days
If you are interrested, in the current show you can hear me introducing half an hour of dance tunes from 1935-40 that were issued in Britain on the Columbia label, here:
http://www.r2ok.co.uk/dancebandshow.htm
Edit: subsequent shows are downloadable at that location
The file is in mono mp3 and is ~30Mb
You can still also listen to the earlier 'taster' show that I did (see the link webpage)
I'm using 78s rather than CD tracks to avoid infringing audio restorer's copyright, but I may still have to apply for a licence if I continue with these shows regularly - I'm checking with MCPS/PRS about the usage and number of downloads, which are very very small.
Regards,
John W

What an excellent idea. I' ve got quite a bit stacked up to watch and listen to but I'll see what I can do.

I've been uploading a new 'Dance Band Show' every week.
My website stats suggest many people are listening to the Dance Band
Shows (from here and elsewhere)
60 people downloaded the new show yesterday, that's nearly 2 gigabyte!
a lot more usage/date transfer than I ever expected.
I have to pay for data transfer above 1Gb so for the moment I'll remove
the links to previous shows and I'll only upload a new show every month.
I'll go back to a weekly show if I can get a better hosting plan from my
provider or if I can make the size of the mp3 files smaller.
The current show is still available.

Until I sort out what download limits I have on my website, for the moment the current dance band show can be downloaded from Sendspace.
The link can be found here:

Hello,
The R2ok website is right now in the middle of an upgrade process to a server, to gain more bandwidth/download allowance for the dance band shows, and it's not ready yet.
So, the 5th Dance Band Show is currently available to download at
Sendspace. I think the file stays available for about 10 days.
Dance Band Show No 5
You can use the following link to retrieve the file:

Dance Band Show # 6 is now uploaded, together with previous shows, at:
http://www.r2ok.co.uk/dancebandshow.htm
In show # 6 you'll hear a random selection of British Dance Bands on
several mostly uncommon record labels from the 1930s
For early jazz fans there's a couple of tracks to interest, from Spike Hughes' band and Nat Gonella's Georgians.

Just realised I've been amiss not informing the group of my programmes, but there have been problems with the server which has 'switched off' three times in the last week. Hopefully you'll be able to access the webpage sometime.
Dance Band Show # 9 is now uploaded, at:
http://www.r2ok.co.uk/dancebandshow.htm
In show # 9 you'll hear a very varied selection of British Dance Bands and vocalists, including some 'novelty orchestras' and novelty genres, one of which is an absolute hoot!
Hope you enjoy!
