Apparently if the Royal Mail is sold off the Queens head could be removed from stamps. Buckinham Palace are thrashing out a deal to save. Yes Ma'am..........

This would be very controversial. Maybe Vince Cable could impress the Queen with his dancing on strictly when he appears on the BBC 1 Christmas special, and she will save his head.

I don't think it would bother me anyway... mind you, they'd have to have some neck to take her head off..

Maybe the stamps could feature Radio 2 DJs?
Steve Wright for First Class and Richard Allinson for Second Class? Cool

Such is Gingerknob's ubiquity that I really wouldn't be surprised if Evans' head did appear on postage stamps.
He'll soon be on all our coins as well (now that's a good reason to join the Euro).

It is just a stamp though- on the one hand I'm thinking - yeah but they're our stamps- we want the Queen on them... and on the other hand I'm thinking , do I really care that much - on a lot of stamps the Queen's head is so small you can hardly see it anyway- if the Germans buy the Royal Mail at least the post will come on time.. and that's more important than the stamp.

At 46p for a First Class stamp (as of April 2011) nobody will be buying them so it's all academic really.

Yeah but Becky, in old money, in 1970, average wage was about £20 a week.

Multiply 20 times for today, so in old money today's stamp is less than 3p or about 6d.

Yeah?

Nothing like a moan about an unjustified moan, Becks! Laughing

Just checked a 1970 commemerative stamp set from 1970, the cheapest stamp was 5d so the comparison with today's 46p is about right (if ~ x20 inflation)

Since £1 today is worth about 9p in 1971 terms that's about right.

As Rach says, it is just a stamp, and the Queen's head is much reduced in comparison to days of yore. Fixing a stamp to a letter is a pretty archaic practice - I'm surprised they don't sell more printed postage-paid envelopes.

As for delivery times, the RM isn't all bad. I posted two parcels last week and they both got to their destinations more than 100 miles away next day; my son's office is still awaiting items sent "Next Day" by two of the private courier companies, from a similar distance last Wednesday.

IF I had spent lots of money buying RM out (I really hope it isn't sold though) then surely I can have what I want on the stamps ? after all it is just a proof of payment for the service >?
