This may be of interest, it is definitely one that I will be hoping to catch.

Paul Rowley has a new documentary airing on BBC local radio over the holiday period on the 1970 election and the influence of RNI/Caroline.

At the moment it's being aired on BBC Radios Cambridgeshire, Coventry and Warwickshire, Cumbria, Merseyside and Three Counties, may also run on Radios Manchester, Sheffield, Essex, Jersey and Berkshire.

Here's the URI again:

This is actually quite a story, and one that the BBC was (allegedly) instructed to ignore back during the campaign, yet certain government agencies (GPO and others) went to the trouble of setting up a mobile transmitter in Kent whose aim was to generate a high-powered jamming signal on the same frequency that was being used by RNI, which then became "Caroline International" for a short period.

It's a fascinating story, and indicates quite clearly that the Wilson government was prepared to do anything to prevent the new young voters from voting for the Tories - who had made an election pledge to licence commercial radio in the UK.

It should be interesting as it apparently contains information from the Public Records Office about RNI released under the 30 year rule. (I am going to listen tomorrow.)

I'm listening to this now. Very interesting programme. Here'a a great track that I would never have otherwise heard, 'Peace' by Peter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsvSBGF4MQM
And when did this rarity that's featured last get an airing. Arrival with 'I Will Survive' - No, not the same song that Gloria Gaynor did! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V41D_QwTsY0

I was a huge fan of pirate radio especially of Radio Caroline and then Radio Northsea International. In those days I took my small transistor radio everywhere, even walked in the street with it to my ear. My husband says that listening to JW etc made me the rebel that I am today! I loved the track 'Peace' by Peter.
