With apologies if this has been aired elsewhere but I have been pleasantly suprised. His style is uncomplicated and he seems to be interested in what punters have to say.

I think you are the first tireecoll. The only other time I've heard him was when he did a Beatles Special one bank holiday. Not sure if it was this year or last.

The bits I've heard I've enjoyed.

Pleasant, reasonably funny (trying to catch Sally Traffic out with the M12 yesterday) and playing some interesting music. Can he stay in the seat until Easter at least, please? Very Happy

Craig Charles loves Soul (particularly Northern Soul) and his knowledge of the genre is very good indeed - this comes through in his presentation style. A welcome alternative "Big Show" in my opinion!

I think Craig has been excellent this week.
He seems to have a real love of music and (unlike most of the other DJs) hasn't been scared to play older music or different styles of music.
Nice to hear Led Zeppelin and Michael Ball in the same show, it's almost been like Radio 2 has been back instead of the bland commercial style radio.
Oh well, at least Ken Bruce has been there with Coldplay followed by Keane followed by Take That to bring things back to blandness.

What the rest said. Easy to listen to, and doesn't try to impress.... but succeeds anyway.

Couldn't agree more, the show is a breath of fresh air this week even his christmas song choices haven't been the obvious ones.

If they want another "celeb" to fit into the radio 2 family then Craig is the one for me similar to Lamarr, he's a music fan first actor second

At first I thought he was bit monotonous, and his 'funk' show isnt my kind of stuff BUT then he grew on me, and you realise its Lister and the commentator from Robot Wars Very Happy

I've always been a fan - unlike nod his 'funk' show is right up my street and essential listening.

I havn't listened to daytime radio 2 for a while. But yesterday afternoon I turned on Radio 2 expecting to have to switch off again pronto but was pleasantly surprised. He has a good presentation manner. I only heard bits of it but what I heard I enjoyed & it did not make me want to switch off at once, unlkike the other daytime R2 presenters
Especially surprising from someone called Craig

OK I've tried - I've really tried, the season if goodwill and all that but while I've thought Craig Charles has been excellent (when I've remembered to listen to him) Patrick Keilty is absolutely dreadful, embarrassing, tiresome and just plain silly. IMHO of course.

I don't like either of them and that discussion between them on the subject of Ireland today really got up my nose

Even though I'm not a big Steve Wright fan I much prefer him to what we're stuck with at present Sad

I love listening to the radio when Kielty's on (just like I do in the case of the insufferable Evans) - largely because I'm usually listening to something else!

I think he tries too hard on the radio. I won't listen to him now.

I can not stand Patrick Kielty. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "he tries too hard". It is the DJ's who are copnstantly TRYING to be funny who really get up my nose. Patrick Kielty is oned of the worst.

I havn't remembered to tune into Radio 2 daytime to catch Craig again tho i thought he was quite good. Should he change his name?

I can't stand him either... the section with him and that Kat Deeley woman this afternoon was the pits... she sounds like a right big head to me. Seemed like ages before he played any music as they bigged each other up.. as usual with him.. ( did I really just write "bigged"?? Rolling Eyes )

Now Craig Charles on the other hand is certainly listenable... not as much as Wright, but better than Allinson for sure..

A quick correction if I may to "nod" - Craig Charles was the presenter of Robot Wars, not the commentator. Jonathan Pearce uttered the distinctive commentaries and is now well known amongst sport fans for his football commentaries.

Craig doesn't quite gel for me, though he has some good moments. He could use some decent mic training; he sounds muffled and "pops" the mic too often for my liking. Sit back a few inches, Craig, you'll sound a lot better!

I agree. I think he's been studying Evans, who stands up and physically man-handles the mic whilst it's live. I bet the Studio Manager cringes.

Not to my ears he isn't. Of the three I prefer Richard Allinson, but I can put up with Steve Wright, Craig Charles just gets on my nerves!

I agree. Of the three, Wright's definitely the worst - but neither Wright nor Charles has Allinson's on-air talent!

No way.. I'm slightly surprised that you have such a dislike for Steve Golden Wonder Wright Colin.. to my way of thinking, he's not far removed from the kind of DJ we used to be glued to on the Pirate Ships.. full of fun, gags and entertainment gems..
Allinson on the other hand is as bland and smug as his former self; Gary Davies from Radio 1...

Sorry Santa I used to quite like Gary Davies on Radio 1 and I used to often listen to his Sunday lunchtime Album Chart Show on Real Radio a couple of years ago

A much maligned presenter and yes I also like Richard
As for Steve I think his present format is well past its sell by date but even allowing for that I'll be glad to see the back of the very poor Craig Charles

I got bored with Wright's style years ago. I really don't like the phoney "woops" and "clappy-claps" that you get all the time in his shows - especially since many of them are played in as spot FX - and he's just a bit too smug for my liking.

Well, we'll just have to disagree on Allinson; what I like is his musical knowledge and the fact that he doesn't feel the need to shout at me or play endless stupid jingles. As for Davies, I never liked him on Radio 1 and although I haven't heard him since I assume that he can't be much better these days.

Laughing but they're the same person! they must be.. they have the same smarmy, I'm always smirking and know more than you do, delivery!

I'm convinced... Davies sold his medallion, bought some Cracker Barrel, shaved his chest hair off, bought a jumper, extended his forehead and wears a silly wig.. voila - Allinson! Laughing

So, at last, it's taking the name it so deserves - Bland FM - along with all the other crappy so-called independent commercial radio stations in the UK.

British Radio is a disgrace!

Thank heavens for Radio Caroline - still doing it differently and totally independently, at least for as long as Ronan O'Rahilly has his way.

The Capital name is being retained - it's all the local names which are vanishing on January 4th.

I wouldn't call Capital bland, but it is noisy and repetitive - seems to draw on a music library the size of the cheapest ipod shuffle. It is supposed to be competition for Radio 1.

The bland networks are Smooth and Heart, hunting the Radio 2 audience.

My use of the word "Bland" really refers to the way that once-local stations have all been welded together into national networks and brands, thereby destroying the "localness" of radio as it was designed to be in the early 1970s. It's that I feel to be a disgrace.
