I've been watching it all week
There has been some really close and exciting matches
Ted Hankey played better than ever I've seen him play before to beat Phil Taylor and my mate Dave Chisnall was unlucky to go out last night but he just didn't do himself justice
My elder son who is seventeen is a semi professional darts player and makes quite a lot of money from playing the junior competitions
He wants to become a professional darts player and I just think he might have the ability to do it
The Grand Slam is my favourite competition in darts

I like the fact that all the groups play in it and on a short format anyone can go out

I agree Hankey was great the other night to beat Taylor saying that he looked much better tonight.
Good to see Stompe get through I've never seen him win a game before

I felt so sorry for Mark Webster missing that double 5 and end up going out after playing so so well to get 4-1 in front, that's darts

I'm a bbc man so I have a soft spot fo rthe BDO guys I'd like to see O'shea or hankey win

You'll have to let me know when your son gets through to some tv games,

Dis I will let you know and hopefully he will join the PDC wnen he gets to 18 next June
I used to prefer darts coverage before Sky caused the split with the BDO but I have to admit that since Sky put money into the game overall standards have gone up quite a lot
I watch darts on BBC as well and there are still quite a few world class players still in the BDO eg Martin Adams Ted Hankey Scott Waites and Dave Chisnall
As you may know the PDC offered to amalgamate with the BDO last year but the BDO rejected this even though money was available to be put into the game and I think this might have been a mistake
I'd like to see a single body running darts so that we see the best of all the players all the time on a level playing field

Me too..it's since all the messing about that I lost my interest in darts on the TV because it seemed only the division 2 players were on BBC..... Evil or Very Mad

I know a shame really. The real example was last years (or was it the year before) final when it was PT vs Simon Whitlock the 180's were coming thick and fast compared to the final of the BDO which was a little pub type.

You can completely understand why the players go to PDC, esp Barney a few years ago he was so far ahead of the rest at that time

The PDC has overall been a good thing and has raised both the profile and quality of darts beyond recognition
I think the best BDO players should switch to the PDC and then leave a role for the BDO in running amateur competitions and helping out at grassroots level
I completely agree that there is little point in carrying on with the BDO World Championship at Lakeside because everyone knows that the winner is not generally the best player in the world and we all know who that is don't we?

I think I would still watch it, it if was on TV

Now that the PDC have opened up to not just play on SKY then I hope that ITV4 will get other or at least tender for some other tournaments. Can only be a good thing for me

Don't suppose you know whether Andy "the Viking" Fordham still plays. I know he had a few health issues after the year he won, but I've not seen him play anywehere since and as I don't have sky I don't know if he plays in the PDC? the year he won he was something else

I completely agree that its a thoroughly good thing that PDC tournaments are now covered on ITV 4 and not long ago they had the European Open on Bravo
If the PDC want to go forward they need to have their tournaments shown on TV Channels available to a wide audience including people who do not have Sky Sports and I think the ITV 4 coverage is really good and hopefully we will see more tournaments with the same commentary team
You mentioned Andy Fordham and I remember about two years ago he announced he was resuming playing and I saw him on TV in a couple of BDO tournaments where he really struggled against very mediocre opposition but he has never joined the PDC or played in any of their competitions
I do often see him in the audience at PDC events but he never looks well and I can't see him ever getting back into big time darts but time will tell

A real shame about Andy,

Sky have said they plan to take Bravo off the air this year so that may scupper plans to get darts out there.
I'm not that keen on the comentary team on ITV4 but he format is great lots of games from 6 til 10.30 I think is a pretty good way of doing it. The players don't all seem too keen but it opens up the early stages.

PT is one of the few great champions of any sport that seems to still be interested in the sport rather than just the winning, he is very noble in defeat and extremely complimentary to his opposition.

Just wish I didn't have to sit in the kitchen to watch it in the cold Rolling Eyes

A great night last night, thought O'Shea was going to walk it but ended up going out Sad

Glad Wade beat King but there was no excuse for the booing, but then again he's a right so and so

My favourite player apart from my mate Dave Chizzy Chisnall is definitely Terry Jenkins
I met him down in Hereford not long ago and he's a real nice down to earth kind of guy
It was a great match against O'Shea but I never had and doubts Terry would come back and win
He has one of the best records against Phil Taylor especially over short format competitions
I'm tipping him to reach at least the semifinals but the next match against Wade will be tough

Both came from behind last night to win, so should be an open game Very Happy
I don't really know Jenkins him being PDC but Wade did briefly play BDO so he'll be my man in that game.
Taylor, Barney and Hankey tonight

a couple of star games tonight, Taylor vs Ronnie and Barney Vs Waites

I'd like to see Ronnie finally win but after Tayor's performance in the last game I'm not holding out much hope. Waites in the other game Barney not the player he used to be a few years ago

bit disapointing all round last night. No one really played that well Taylor was ok.
Stompe did however play out of his skin

I thought it was a shame that Ted Hankey blew it by letting the crowd get to him
Although some people were out of order professional players should be able to handle these situations and some like Peter Manley and Paul Nicholson actually go out to make themselves unpopular and turn the crowd reaction to their own advantage
Scott Waites was well below his best but perhaps it was just an off day for him
Taylor looks threatening and I certainly wouldn't bet against him winning the tournament - glasses or no glasses Confused

Quarters a bit of a let down quality wise but the first were close and reasonably exiting.
Stompe a let down and Waites still managed to get through without playing well (Man u do that every week)

but game number 4 more than made up for it, beaton's doubles were spot on.

I thought the Jenkins Wade match was good and of course the final match of the day was fantastic and well done Mr Beaton
I'm not convinced he is going to win overall but to beat the master over a long format match is a great achievement for any player
I notice that PT was talking twice in interviews yesterday about when he retires
I wonder if we should read anything into that or whether he is just lulling his competitors into a false sense of security Confused

I noticed he'd mentioned it twice, maybe he's getting a little bored of not reallyt being challenged that much.
Waites and Wade final for me, kind of the new guard then again I've not done that well picking winners so far

well what a let down the semi's were but the final more than made up for it.
Wade did well to hold it together during the interview at the end if it wasn't for the presentation he'd have walked.
He started better than I've seen any player start he wasn't missing a thing even with Waites still playing well, but what a collapse.

great for a spectator Very Happy

Like you said a fantastic final and a great advert for the game of darts for viewers new to the sport
I hope Waites will now go full time professional as he is a superb player
I have never seen Wade looking so down as he did at the end and I just wonder what effect the situation will have on his World Championship bid as the tournament for the PDC starts around mid December
Letting an eight leg lead slip must be very hard to get out of your mind for any player

Well we'll see this week, world championships start tomorrow, I don't have sky sports so am going to miss the games

Lets hop eSimon Whitlock plays better than the last time we saw him when he's on form he's fantastic.
Taylor post on FB that he's still excited about playing so expect him to be there at the end

Yes Dis it all kicked off tonight but so far not very exciting with no major upsets

I think it will be a few days before things start to get interesting

I think PT is more beatable than in any previous World Championship but that's not to say it's necessarily going to happen Confused

There was a massive upset in the World Darts tonight when Mark Webster the former BDO World Champion beat 15 times champion Phil Taylor by the surprising margin of 5-2

I watched a recording and I don't think I've ever seen Taylor throwing so carelessly and I just wonder whether this might be when the game opens up and becomes a more level playing field

My personal favourite Terry Jenkins reached the semi finals and I think he has a real chance of winning the title

I really hope so as I put a £5 bet on Terry before the tournament started at odds of 66-1 so I'll be keeping everything crossed Shocked

I've not been checking too much.
A couple of good semi's I will try and keep an eye on the games on line while the BDO is on.

Your mate Chizzy should have lost this afternoon, usual come back for him but did everything he could to try and lose. Game of the tournament so far

Yes Chizzy is always his own worst enemy but he'll probably stumble his way through to next weekend somehow

I was really surprised to see Tony O'Shea go out so early on

And of course the really excellent match to look forward to is Scott Waites v Ted Hankey a first round match worthy of the Final
What a cracker that should be

Yes I have Scotty to win this year although saying that Stuart Kellett definitely played the best darts I've seen so far, Daryl Fitton who is no slouch was totally out classed.

No Terry in the final in PDC should be a good final Anderson I feel, been wrong before plenty of times.

Yes Dis I didn't win my bet as they say close but no cigar

I think Anderson will win tonight but it's by no means certain and it really depends whether Adrian Lewis keeps his concentration of goes to sleep for any period of the match which he has a habit of doing but not so much so since Keith Deller has been guiding him

Either way it will be good for the game to have a new and younger champion and as for the BDO Championship I think Waites must be favourite but I think Ted could run him close in the match today

Not even close, as a fan it would have been better over the longer format but that's the draw, Scotty didn't put a foot wrong, neither did Bunting.

Still wouldn't bet against Taylor at the next PDC tournament, he's not done just yet, but chinks in the armour at last two in a row going out early

The Waites v Hankey match was really disappointing

I've just been watching John Boy Walton v Martin Adams which has not been bad

Shame the timing overlaps with the PDC Final but I might get to see most of it
Whatever happens another previous champion will bite the dust

Saw the Adams v Walton game late last night a great game, trouble is I think that might be it for Adams this year you see it time and again when a player has a great tought game early on they end up struggling late on. Smith looked pretty good for a first timer and only 22, a toughy for Adams

Yes from what I saw the Adams v Walton match made for good entertainment

I suppose I have to say a word or two about the PDC Final which must rank as one of the greatest in recent years

Anderson by no means played badly but Adrian Lewis was absolutely on fire getting the first ever nine dart finish in a PDC Final in only the third leg of the match

I'm not the world's greatest Lewis fan but I have to say his victory was comprehensive and thoroughly deserved and I think he may now go on to be a major force in darts for quite a few years to come
He is now World number 2 and both he and Anderson will be in the Premier League which starts weekly on 10th February

Well another of my winners bites the dust, I think Scott should have won by miles last night but just couldn't hit a double, and the other guy was always just behind and was finishing brilliantly.

I am going to get my OH to bet on who ever I say is going to win's apponent we'll make a fortune

I think young Scotty will be kicking himself this morning over the number of those missed doubles more than thirty I believe

The other guy was good but I don't think he'll win it
I really wouldn't like to say with any confidence who will reach the final now but perhaps this new up and coming Dutch guy could have a chance

Sadly no repeat of last year for my mate Chizzy but I'm sure he'll get over it after Sunday
His girlfriend will probably give him a hard time until then though Sad

Beginning to look like my local player Adams is going to hold on to his title, I like to see a player come from behind like Phillips did lats night but he hardly set the place alight.

I think you're probably right Dis it would be a foolish person who would now bet against Wolfie winning for a third consecutive time

Whilst I've nothing against him as with Phil Taylor it's nice to see others having a chance
Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Martin Phillips win as he has been a good player for many years without ever really winning any major titles and I'd like to see him win one before he retires

Not long to go now before all becomes clear

Don't know if you've heard Rudds but the PDC have just sold the TV rights of the Grand Slam to Sky fo rthe next three years.
personally I'm a little dissapointed I don't do sky, and have no intentions of getting it. Yes I know the PDC was built up on sky but not letting a terrestrial channel have a go is not good fo rthe sport in the long run

I agree dis

I'm not a huge fan of Sky myself and only have it because I have a son who is a semi professional darts player in the junior tournaments and he's also a mad keen football fan and I follow Rugby League so there is little choice

I have to say I preferred it in the days before Sky came into existence and I don't like doing anything to assist Murdoch's world domination campaign and I would much prefer these massive sporting events to be available on the normal terrestial channels or at least on Freeview and Freesat

Having said that I don't think anyone could deny the birth of the PDC has been a great thing for the sport of darts which is proved by comparing the averages which were winning tournaments in the 80s compared to now
I doubt my son would be trying to forge a career in darts without seeing the game on Sky but in many ways I suppose we all wish we could turn the clock back to the old days

I think the audience figures will drop drastically if the Grand Slam is shown only on Sky but unfortunately at the end of the day it seems that it is money which talks and not audience figures or the enjoyment of the general public Sad

At the moment Dis he's playing in mainly local BDO tournaments in and around the North West and does reasonably well in them

Last year he entered the Open championship held at the Reebok in Bolton and played in the preliminary heats held in Chester and funnily enough Phil Taylor's son was playing there on the same day so perhaps that's a good omen

He also played Chizzy in a cancer charity event this time last year which was shown on Sky's Rugby League Show called 'Boots 'n All'
He didn't beat Chizzy but put up a good show

At the moment he's in his second year at college to obtain an electrical qualification because it's important he has a trade or career to support himself but when he turns 18 this June I've promised him as a birthday present that I will pay for him to join the PDC if he wants to

By the way Chizzy reckons he's now switched to the PDC but I've not heard anything official about it in the media
