It's terrible news for the workers.

Hi Mark,

That link isn't working, I think this is the one you want.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-12137490

Sad news indeed for anybody working there.

Why do people post news into the coffee bar?

What does it matter where it's posted - it wasn't news by the time I'd posted it as the BBC website had published the story several hours before. At best, it was "coffee bar chat", hence the post in that forum.

If you'd have used the "View posts since last visit" link you'd have seen that a link to the story had already been posted (mostly in fun, if I'm honest) and you would have saved yourself some work.

Cool

That's what I was saying last week Colin on the subject of multiple threads

It beats me when there is such a facility at people's fingertips why some of them never seem to use it

It beats me while people moan about duplicate threads, just ignore them and they will drop down the list.

It must be great to be perfect.

None of us are perfect Toggy but there's no excuse for anyone being so lazy that they can't be bothered to check what has already been posted by others since their last visit

Yes one could ignore it but that way the problem simply gets worse and worse
I don't think anything Colin has said is in any way unreasonable on this subject

The funny thing (well, in my opinion anyhow) is that I only posted a completely random link for the hell of it, not thinking that Marko would have been trawling the internet for another earthshattering "news" link to post! Smile

Well I do, he is always saying how Mark trawls for stories, well it seems he trawls for Mark posting the stories just so he can have yet another go at him.
I'm sorry but it's very tiresome and to people who might be visiting this forum it doesn't look terribly friendly.

I'm not talking about the merits or otherwise of what any individual may choose to post about on this forum

What I'm saying is that if they wish to do so it behoves them to check whether there is already a relevant thread of which they can avail themselves rather than repeat what some other member has already done

Apart from anything else it's insulting to other members not to take the time and trouble to look at what has been posted

Is there a prize for members posting the most obscure subjects as often as possible or am I missing something?

When it comes to posting new topics perhaps what is needed is quality rather than quantity

It is equally insulting to pick holes in spelling, grammar and so on yet certain people apparently take delight in doing so.
Do you really expect everybody to check every single section on here before they post?
There are plenty of threads about a certain presenter that many people don't like which are repetitive but this is OK of course.

Anyway this has gone way off topic and we all know why, however this is my last post on this particular thread.

I have rarely if ever commented on the subject of incorrect grammar
I have my own views but I tend to agree that it's probably not an appropriate subject for comment

On the matter of members checking previous posts if someone goes on the forum infrequently I understand that it might take hours to go through all these posts and I can accept that it might be unreasonable to expect them to do so

However when a member is on here every day and often more than once per day posting probably more new topics than anyone else it is surely not asking a lot to expect them to look at a relatively few posts since their last visit in order to make sure that whatever new subject they are planning to post about is not already covered by an existing thread

It's sheer lazy behaviour as a result of which they only end up making themselves appear stupid and incompetent but perhaps that does not bother some people

Thankyou Ruddles. It's nice to know there's somebody who can see what I'm getting at!

Toggy - I don't (and don't need to) trawl the whole forum for particular posts. They turn up in the "View posts since last visit" list. That's the point, you see. It's VERY easy to check what's already been posted. As Ruddles so correctly observes, Marko is in such haste to post his often-obscure links that he can't be bothered to check.

And if he can't be bothered to check, then there's surely no cause for complaint when others poke fun.
