Over the festive period, I've been watching some classic TV series from the days before television consisted of 'reality' shows of one sort or another, miserable soap operas etc. The episodes are divided into 7 or 8 minute clips but I think they are still well worth watching. Does anyone remember Airline? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roR-Dy7wCWg&NR=1 or another Roy Marsden series The Sandbaggers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WODuOSzBkUE

I loved "Airline" - largely because of those fabulous two Dakotas!

It didn't last more than a couple of series, I seem to recall.

I believe it was only the first Airline book that was televised. There was also Airline 2 which took in the Berlin airlift. I don't know why they didn't make a series out of the second book, it's most probably because, in the book Jack Ruskin gets his hands on a larger aircraft (Handley Page Halton) to use on the lift and there aren't any left out there to my knowledge.

That needn't have prevented from creating new series on the theme. You only have to look at the way stuff like Heartbeat went way beyond the books on which the series was originally based.

Here's another favourite from about the same time about bomb disposal, Danger UXB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfcC0ki6uhI

Evan, my sister had a massive crush on Anthony Andrews when Danger UXB was first on!

It doesn't look as if there are any clips of The Hong Kong Beat episodes around and I don't remember very much about the TV series but I do remember liking the theme tune, some excellent guitar work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM3uuypgvTc It even made the chart and was issued on the BBC's own record label. Does anyone know if the BBC record label still exists in any form?
I've shared a few of my old favourites above (another was Flambards - probably because there was an underlying aeronautical theme in there, but again little of this exists online) What TV shows / series from the past did other posters enjoy?
