Really? I'd never ever thought of Feltz as being anything other than an outspoken, self-centred and obnoxious woman.
However, I can happily listen to Mr. Allinson. In contrast to many egotistical R2 presenters these days, he's much more interested in (and knowledgeable about) the music he plays - music which largely matches my own musical preferences. So on that count alone he must be better than Mrs. MotorMouth! |

I’ve never actually heard Vanessa on the radio but I have heard Allinson and having done so, I’ve concluded that anyone would be better than him, so on that basis Vanessa is the girl for the job. |

Give her a listen first, Rachel. Believe me, she's dire - to my ears anyhow. Still, her appointment is at least consistent with Shennan's other disastrous appointments. |

If she really is that bad- she'll go far and last a long time on R2. That's how it works apparently. |

If the appointments were that dreadful then surely the numbers would have dipped compared to other stations?
Though, like the majority here, I'm wondering who is actually listening, particularly since the demographics are supposed to be pretty static.

I think Vanessa could be ok if she can curb her verbosity. She does a phone in show & phone in hosts as a breed are abhorent, though she is less so than most.
I hope when she joins Radio 2 she will realise that less (words) is more |

Caught Vanessa Feltz on the Graham Norton show this morning. When my husband turned the radio off, the feeling was pretty similar to the one we got when we turned CE off. Blessed relief!
No problem for us. We're tuned into Christian O'Connell on Absolute Radio first thing. Can't see anything changing there. _________________ Minx

Oh wasn't she awful! I was going to record the first hour or Early Breakfast as I've been doing for the last few months but I'm having second thoughts now.
I just hope she burns herself out. Why on earth does she want to do 2 radio shows a day every week day morning?

Or maybe it's to stop her eating............... She said why would I want to stay at home, I don't want to bake cakes all day...........
We are doomed is all I can say to that!

I would be quite happy to stay at home and bake cakes all day, but who would eat them?

I didn't know until I heard it on the show this morning, that she's the permanent replacement for Jeremy Vine when he's not there. Deep joy! _________________ Minx

I heard that when it was first announced Minx. The report also said he wasn't very pleased about that and also other presenters were not happy about her coming at all. How true it was we'll never know!

She's obviously got a 'food addiction' problem and needs to keep busy to stop herself eating. There are hundreds of things she could do apart from baking cakes, but her mind must be stuck on food!

I have avoided the woman this far and will do in perpetuity. She's completely obnoxious - almost as much as Evans. No, correction: As much as Evans. And that's saying something. |

The trail for the new show has been going out on R2 this week. I don't think she'll be as bad as some of you seem to think she will. She may not be the obvious choice for a music show, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't at least give it a go. _________________ Fred Hart

Sorry Fred you're wrong there
I have met this deadful woman and believe me she is certainly as bad as most posters are suggesting and probably worse
An absolute bitch and smug with it so I think she will give CE a run for his money in the irritation stakes _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

She did confirm that she will be the permanant cover for Jeremy Vine. I doubt she will do her BBC London show then. It's a shame Matthew Bannister won't be covering anymore. |

The dreadful woman won't get the chance to prove it with me, because I won't be listening. Period.

Yet another example of how Bob "Do I look as if I'm busking this job?" Shennan knowing what's best for the whole listenership. |

Bob Shennan is getting Vanessa ready to take over from Jeremy. I wouldn't be surprised if he's off to pastures new soon. |

Hardly Mark, they have already got BBC Local Radio in Manchester. I doubt people in London would want to listen to that instead.

Indeed! Remember when everyone thought that Stuart Maconie would take over the Drivetime show from Johnnie Walker as Stuart was the main holiday cover for that show at the time? And Johnnie Walker didn't take over from Sir Terry Wogan at breakfast time did he? Despite his being Sir Terry's main holiday cover. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

You're right. Instead, Bob "Help me, I'm clueless" Shennan decided not to give the job to a decent broadcaster but instead gave it to a complete knob! |

Thank goodness I'm never up at that time of day!
It makes Matthew Bannister seem positively appealing as a stand in for JV
Why are they so obsessed with any old has been celebrity they can get to host their prime shows? |

I wish I knew the answer to that BDG. I can see me switching allegience to 6 music. I heard a bit of their early morning output in the run-up to last Christmas and it sounded good. Chris Hawkins is a good DJ. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I certainly won't be tuning into this dreadful woman.
The alternative on Absolute seems much more appealing-Christian O'Connell. |

Looking on the bright side, Felz's appointment must be good news for whoever runs the Broadcasting House Canteen.
I wouldn't like to be behind her in the queue |

I hear him at work. Not my cup of tea and as for their playlist of about 10 tracks, much of which they have been flogging to death for two years at least. Most unappealing to me. Bring back the pre ginger whinger Virgin radio. Then you might be getting somewhere. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

In all honesty, while I said earlier that "I don't think she'll be as bad as you think", I didn't really have a clue as to what to expect.
But first impressions: quite good.
She's no "shouty one" - quite the opposite really. Her presenting style at this time of this morning is very relaxed. I'll be listening regularly in the future.
The Jeremy Vine Show, being a slightly different format, will probably have a different presentation style, when Vanessa hosts it. _________________ Fred Hart

I'll have to strongly disagree with you Fred!
She was absolutely atrocious. Relaxed? She was annoying me after 5 minutes, her voice has almost the pitch of a hyena. I've never heard her on radio (appart from on Graham Norton on Saturday) but I won't be listening again that's for sure.
A yappy woman who we don't need on the airwaves, she gives women broadcasters a bad name as well.
As for the Jeremy Vine Show, well I won't be listening whenever she is on.
