I've just caught up with this two part drama about the German U-Boat which torpedoed a ship which they thought was carrying only Allied troops but which also had women and children on board as passengers.
The U-Boat commander's first instinct was to do the humanitarian thing and rescue as many as possible.
It made for a gripping three hours viewing, and this evening there was a programme in which survivors of that event in 1942 talked about their memories. |

Thanks for this Eileen, I couldn't remember the name of the two part series to look it up on catch up, I've heard it was very good and moving so will check it out. |

Yes, it was very good. I was googling the true story when it was on and it's quite faithful. |
