I was never the biggest fan of Thin Lizzy but BBC 4's music programmes on a Friday night are always worth a look and watching this made me really appreciate what a great front man Phil Lynott was not to mention a snazzy dresser...love the shirt he has on in this video ..

....the song isn't that bad either...Wink ..will be looking out some of their less well known stuff.

Yes, another brilliant programme from BBC4. Phil seemed much nicer than I always assumed him to be. I don't think Leslie Crowther approved of him though!
'Live And Dangerous' is a great live compilation, whether it's the classic rock like 'The Boys Are Back In Town' or the wonderful 'Still In Love With You' and 'Southbound'.

Becky, I recently heard that the whole Thin Lizzy name was actually a big mistake

The band was supposed to be called Tin Lizzy after the well known car but apparently someone involved in promoting them made a giant cock up and promoted them under the wrong name

Quite typically in his very laid back way Phil told him not to worry about it as everyone in Ireland would pronounce it as Tin Lizzy anyway so there was no damage done and of course the rest is history as they say

Yes, ruddles, that was covered in the programme....Very Happy

Like you Schizoidman I had a sort of impression about Phil not being that nice ..where that came from I've no idea ..what a great pity drugs and drink got the better of them....sadly,in Phil's case, bringing about a premature death.... Crying or Very sad

It must have been very difficult for Phil as a black guy growing up in an ultra conservative country like Ireland run by the Catholic Church in the 1960's with a lot of very dodgy priests it would seem

I think he must have had quite a few problems and I suppose music was his outlet and fortunately for him he made it to the point where he was not just recognised for his undoubted talents but actually honoured and respected as one of Ireland's greatest performers

It is indeed sad that he died so young but unfortunately I think all the ingredients were there to cause that to happen

A greatly missed and unique talent nevertheless who left a superb musical legacy

I very much enjoyed the programme.

I'm a huge Lizzy fan, saw them twice (including the Reading Festival 1977, saw footage on that docu) and have four albums. Lynott was a great front man, some great songs, used very fine guitarists, and the drummer was geat too (saw him with Gary Moore recently, but having seen Moore solo gig I'm no real fan of him now).

In Philomena Lynott (Phil's mum)'s book 'My Boy', she tells of bringing the baby home and having to lie to the neighbours that he was an African child they'd adopted.

Leslie Crowther came across as a complete git in what I've read about Phil's wedding to Caroline.

I remember when Leslie Crowthers daughter married, Crowther he went mad.

I enjoyed the programme and it brought back songs I had forgotten...must look out for them
