Why am I suddenly reminded of Ernie Wise's playwriting skills?

As far as turning the **** (insert your own word here) off, or tuning elsewhere, you lot still don't get it, what are the options??? As most listen to breakfast radio in the car, Smooth is the only option as I see it, and as 95% of cars don't have the DAB option, where can we go?

And if there is breakfast shows out there that you like, why not listen to them? It’s not quantum mechanics.

Read my post and try again.

So what you're saying is, it's Radio 2's fault that there isn't a wide range of alternative breakfast shows on other stations out there and as such they should produce a breakfast show that YOU like? That being the case I've thought of somewhere you can go...

I'll try once more, there is an alternative (for me personally) but as I stated, IT IS ON DAB, and the time I wish to listen I happen to be in the car, this option doesn't exist in my car (and not many others), when home I do have the option.

As a 'BBC tax' payer, I find their offering of a MOR musical based non DAB breakfast show a farce which is presented by a knob.

I don't listen in the car either but I think you'll find that the majority of listeners hear at least some of it in their cars Rachel

As Kengeo says there is very little to choose from if you don't have DAB in the car, and lets face few of us have gone down that route.

So buy a DAB radio for your car. Blimey! I wish everyone's problems were as easy to sort as yours.

Anyway, you’re not a BBC Tax payer- you’re a Licence Fee payer (presumably) but actually you don’t need a licence to listen to the radio – so BBC Radio is effectively free. Smile ( if you have a TV that's your poblem)That's not a bad deal in my book.

It's funny how some people on here, the very people who complain about Radio 2 presenters talking too much, too loudly, too childishly, exhibit exactly the same tendencies on threads like this.

Few of us want to waste our hard earned cash on something that is worse than listening to radio on a dial up internet connection Rachel!

I certainly won't be doing that until if and when they switch off FM.

But none of this is Radio 2's fault or Chris Evans' fault. What's really being said by some on here is , they just want anyone other than Chris Evans doing the R2 Breakfast Show. One day they'll get their wish but I wouldn't hold my breath until then. Smile

Even if I just wanted to watch ITV, I would still have to pay the licence, and for that reason I call it a tax, a tax that allows stupid wages to be paid to the likes of Mr Evans.

Have you looked at the cost of in car DAB?

That is true , if you have TV you need a licence- call it what you like but if you don't have a TV .. BBC Radio is free.

In car DAB ... I've no idea what they cost - Hubby's car has both my car has just FM. Oh hang on I've just looked - you can get an adaptor for £49. So there you go, problem solved.

Yea great bit of kit, that will require a wire stuck to your windscreen, and constant retuning of your FM radio as you travel to prevent stronger FM signals from breaking through.

Try again!

OK so spend a bit more you can get a proper in car DAB for around £120. Are you saying those adaptors don't work? How do you know? If you buy on and it doesn't work- get your money back, if it does work- yay!

DAB radio in cars cost hundreds of pounds.

Of course it's Radio 2's fault, they have inflicted Evans on us, and how many people do not have a TV, very few.

It's not so much that they don't work but they are fiddly and a nuisance. I know you are a DAB lover but not many of us are that fond of it.

A decent one will be. You don't go for the cheapest if you are changing your car radio.

This site does a 45 days buy and try thing, If you don't like it- get your money back- you can have DAB in your car for as little as £28.99 or as much as you'd like to spend. Try it and see, it will cost nothing to try it.

I've had Ipod adaptors that work on the same principle, they basically transmit an FM signal to your car radio, which is very susceptible to interference from local stronger signals, and the sound quality is poor.

As far as just putting a new radio in your dash goes, it isn't that simple all modern cars tend to have unique fittings, and often a different type of aerial is required, many cars use boosted FM aerials that form part of the heated rear window.

It's all problems with you isn't it. Smile

Look- in car DAB isn't expensive in the whole scheme of things, it isn't difficult- you can get a man to do it for you and you can try it free.

Now I'm going to have some lunch. I've earned it.

No thanks I don't need one as I don't need something else to listen to while Evans is on. I've a perfectly good one already in my car and I returned my Pure Evoke 3 to John Lewis this time last year. The DAB didn't work despite my postcode saying reception should be just short of wonderful!

Oh Gnasty Gnome – I see where you get your name from Smile ; let me just pull this dagger from my chest. That’s better. I could hold my breath forever- everyone knows I’m a heartless machine.

Anyway – I think later, when I get back from ladies that lunch, I’m going to buy one of those cheap DAB adaptors just to see if they work- I’ll make a little project out of it, might even post a photo of me fitting it into my lil car.

As a long term R2 listener and totally ambivalent to Chris Evans show, I think the point being made by the anti Evans brigade is that there are many shows of the same style as his - phone-ins, silly jokes, not-so-silly jokes and general good humour. The question is was it valid to replace a more gentle listening show with a format which is adequately provided for on other stations? Terry was unique in style and is much missed. There is no alternative available on FM radio.
Rachel makes some valid points, but should not be blinded to the fact that Terry maintained huge audiences for many years on the strength of his presentation ability. I hope that CE can match it in time. Smile

I have no problem with THAT! It's the fact that some of them have to bring it into practically every conversation regardless of irrelevance that irritates me!

TW did and still does but he's gone from the Breakfast Show now, if R2 had chosen someone like TW to replace him, although I cannot think of anyone who is anything like TW, then he'd maybe feel like a poor imitation and be charged with trying to be like TW rather than himself. I think a complete change was the safest option. And say what you like about Chris Evans, and they do say it, he's not Terry Wogan. Smile

That's why Ken Bruce didn't sound right in the Breakfast slot after TW went first time around.

I think I said at the time that the safest option was Simon Mayo, but we were still thinking radical at the time, before the Trust started taking note of what the vociferous elderly vote wanted, and in any case you don't put your most expensive and dynamic signing at No 2.
