Staring at the Sun by TV on the Radio

TV on the Radio

bit of a Lenny Kravitz vocal but other than that a bit odd

Ruddlescat, the Undertones suffer from the 'Prince from Snow White' rule *regularly on local radio. Your Reals and Radio Aires will only play Teenage Kicks whereas 6 Music might play Jimmy Jimmy or It's Gonna Happen at best.

After an incident where one of my boss's much-loved employees left something untoward on a seat at the New Headingley Club, I've often wondered if 'Mars Bars' would be a good choice of pre-show music!

The soundtrack to Get Carter by Roy Budd a nice mix of jazzy tunes with Michael Caine being all hard inbetween for effect.

Loreena McKennitt's new CD The Wind That Shakes The Barley
http://quinlanroad.com/explorethemusic/thewindthatshakesthebarley.asp
A beautiful voice, a back-to-roots and traditional folk album. Very restful.
Not released here until Jan 24th, but you can get it now from her site, cheaper!

Someone embarrased me by letting me know of a couple of artists from around these here parts (Peterborough)
Colin Hodgkinson (Back Door) and Lloyd Watson, I have not heard of either before.

I am currently listening to the 801live album where Lloyd Watson and a couple of the members of Roxy Music play, whata great album
801 - Babys on Fire

Nice one.
Colin Hodgkinson is brilliant - Britain's other great left-handed bass player; plays with Spencer Davis Group as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gutdzlHK6E
I saw him at Steamin' Blues eighteen months ago with Zoot Money, Frank Diez, Colin Allen and Maggie Bell - the British Blues Quintet

Re:Rockin' With The Pirates - Ross Hannaman's Down Through Summer is on here and this was an early Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice composition (pre-Jesus Christ Superstar).

Currently I'm listening to part 2 of the John Lennon New York years documentary. It makes a change to hear the lesser-known Lennon stuff.

Ruddles, Becky - the Undertones's 'It's Gonna Happen' was on Chris O'Dowd's Little Crackers episode this week!

It was the one about the young Chris being scared of Santa ever since he peed on a chainstore Santa's lap.

I'm listening to Jarvis Cocker's 6 on 2 on the i-player. I think he does a good show. A bit off the wall with interesting music.

A while since I've heard that - takes me back a bit! Very Happy

Since the last lot went down well, here's the latest batch I'm going through:

Frank Popp Ensemble - Ride On
(here's "Hip Teens Don't Wear Blue Jeans": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5kRnxF6bxQ&playnext=1&list=PLC3249E5A2A4B0033&index=9)
Zero 7 - Yeah Ghost
(here's "Swing": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw8-Yt2Ai3Q)
The Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics
(here's "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjrUOlK2714) - if only Ken Bruce could play that!
My Bubba & Mi - How It's Done In Italy
(here's "Steemengeene": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WH0s1QpdkI&feature=related)

If you only listen to one of the above, make it My Bubba & Mi - I had the pleasure of staying the night in a cottage in North Yorkshire with My and Bubba (Swedish and Icelandic girls respectively) back in November - I now work at The Band Room on gig nights and am fortunate enough to occasionally look after the artists!

Gyles Brandreth picked this as one of his choices on Desert Island Discs...it's lovely hymn ..I heard it recently in the film Atonement..

Looking on Youtube for it I found this very moving version version by Neil Hannon, who I have always been a fan of.....

Not heard that before Becky, the man can do no wrong. Maybe it's about time I invested in some of his stuff.

Had Spotify on last night and had a music quiz type thing with myself and kept linking to bands connected with so and so, anyway I ended up with this

Vitamin C - Can

And at the moment I am listening to more of Can

Listening to the JP podcast again and he talked about a track By Stanley Winston being one the greatest songs ever made so had to search it out.

No More Ghettos In America

on Spotify it's on a compilation called Soul Jewels I Wake Up Crying which really is one of the best soul albums i've ever heard

I'm presently listening to a repeat of the Manic Street Preachers gig from last night on the red button on BBC tv

I was lucky enough to be there and I can honestly say that it was one of the most atmospheric gigs I have ever experienced

It took me back to 1987 when I used to work in South Wales and would go to Blackwood to see the Manics on a cold Monday night when they were an unknown band

I urge all Manics fans to have a look and even others who haven't got the bug yet

You might just like it
