Well they didn't last long...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12321615

Why can't they do some kind of deal with the artist and the venue/record company after all they benefit most from the exposure and at the time of the last event John and Diamond had new CD's out and said so...many times...

Then again they could continue to make use of the BBC Theatre which is more intimate and already wired up for the recording of and broadcasting of live music events...

Not surprised, really. The last one seemed very low-key and generally I don't think Shennan has the enthusiasm for doing something different with music.

They should have cancelled our role in the Eurovision Song Contest after the infamous Father Ted episode with 'My Lovely Horse'!

wow Jeff Smith! I used to work with him- wonder if he's the same one.

You have to expect this sort of thing with the reducing licence fee. Live music events are rubbish on the radio anyway - great for the people there but not much fun for the listeners at home. I don't think it's Radio 2's job to put on large scale live shows. It's bonkers.

Yes but with the last lot Radio 2 was only taking an audio feed anyhow. The events were recorded for TV, so it wasn't just one cost-centre copping for the cost.

That was a bit alliteracious, wasn't it?

Yes I like that.

Cost is cost. It all comes from same big bucket eventually.

I wonder how much is costs to host Weekend Wogan from the Radio Theatre?

The BBC need to keep the spare budget to pay for celebrities to host shows on Radio 2. Rolling Eyes

I think the cost benefit analysis for anything Captain Wogan does is always going to be pretty much FSD benefit. It's a no brainer.
