More on this here....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2011/02_february/01/6music.shtml

Mark will also launch a new weekly show on Radio 2 on Tuesday nights from 11-12midnight, featuring a distinctive and eclectic selection of new, and classic music from Mark's own record vaults.

They will be replaced by Jo Whiley on the Radio 2 evening show.

I'm pleased that Radcliffe & Maconie get a slot on 6 Music. They'll be on for 3 hours, 5 days a week! Very Happy

They're also on at (roughly) the same time as Steve Wright, so for those that don't like him, they don't have to put up with him any more! (I personally listen to both).

I don't mind Jo Whiley on the In Concert show, so I'm looking forward to hearing her new Monday to Wednesday show.

For thed fans of R&M who don't have DAB, this is a bad move. However as a lot of my listening is done online via iPlayer anyway, it won't make that much difference to me, and I think I'll quite enjoy it.

That's got to be good news, as I've been struggling to find anything to listen to in the afternoons. I rarely listen to the radio in the evenings, but have it on all day during the week. I used to enjoy listening to Simon Mayo on 5 Live, but listening to his replacements is less pleasurable than breaking my arm, something I really didn't enjoy at all.

I always found Jo Whiley intensely dull when I occasionally listened to her on Radio 1, so I hope she's improved for those of you who do listen to the evening programmes.

Great news for me a regular slot at a reasonable time of day for me to catch the tail end of, and at the same time as Wrighty all good.

Not sure what the point of the 1 hour a week, I wonder whether Mark has got himself something written in his contract to have to play on R2 ? why would you bother ?

I'm annoyed at losing a cracking evening show (and Jo Whiley is useless - she's one reason I came to Radio 2 from Radio 1 in the first place) but I have to agree that having Mark and Stuart in the afternoon will be an improvement on the current choice. Richard Bacon is just terrible.

I'll post on here rather than the No, No, No No thread as I'm actually glad to see R&M move to 6music, as I have found their NATTER and BLETHERING unbearable and if I had the Radio on evenings it was R3 or ClassicFM.

Mark on Tuesday 11-12midnight - don't think I'll tune in at that time.

I expect Jo Whiley will make her show like old R1, and I may not like that either.

Just listened to the last 30 mins of R&M, and if that's what they've been doing since the New Year then.... or maybe they don't care what they play or talk about now Confused

I prefer to listen to just one of them at a time. When they co-host they both seem to talk at the same time on top of each other. I miss Stuart Maconie sitting in on other shows in the daytime like he used to do. Sad

I certainly miss Stuart Maconie's Saturday shows (Particularly the original Saturday evening Critical List, even after all this time) Yes, it is a shame that both Stuart & Mark don't seem to deputise on other shows these days.
On the other thread it's revealed that Nemone (who Mark & Stuart are taking over from) moves to the 6 music weekend breakfast show. I wonder what will happen to the current 6 music breakfast host, Jo Good. Does she get another show or are they unceremoneously dumping her?

I quite like Jo Good

I remember she used to be one of the better presenters on Heart a couple of years ago

I'd much rather listen to her than Jo Whiley Sad

Me too Ally...I have been quite ost since Simon left 5 live so when I get the chance to listen in the afternoon it will be lovely to hear Mark and Stuart + Lard will not have the competition at night now from his old muckers.... Very Happy

I'll have to buy one of those gizmos to make a car radio digital, otherwise its suits me fine, as I can listen and get paid for it! Given R2's obsession with C-list celebs, they could have made a worse choice than Jo Wiley. I'm surprised they haven't given daily slots to Phil Tufnell and Coleen Rooney yet.

I tend to agree with you on this, John. I get easily fed up with their show & seldom listen nowadays.
One of those guys- I think it is Mark Radcliff- does an excelent job of presenting the Cambridge Folk Festival on Sky Arts.
But sadly, their mid evening show is quite a different kettle of sardines.
I don't know about Jo Whiley. I tuned into the Early show on Radio 2 today & found it awful. I switched over pronto.
No wonder Radio 2 has now fallen behind Magic as the most listened to radio station in London

What an odd choice for that slot - comedy week on BBC Radio 2...

What a surprise - more comedians on Radio 2.

To be fair, Holmes has been doing his own show on 6Music for years and Miranda's sitcom was on the station on it's long, long road to telly.

Maranda's Joke Shop only ran for 4-5 episodes and was repeated maybe 2 or 3 times and came to tv very quickly.

Jon has been on BBC6 Music and been on just about any radio station you can think of including LBC and Radio 4.

I suspect this another promotion on Radio 2 to attract listeners to BBC6 Music who have not tried it as yet.

Quickly? It started in Edinburgh 10 years ago, was piloted on Radio 2 in 2007 before becoming a 6-part series the next year, then a variation was on Radio 4 and ITV2 before finally becoming a success on BBC 2.

That's quite fast by today's standards but I'll go along with you Ian as you do know more about this...

But a comedy sitcom and when it is broadcast on radio or transferred to TV is different to what is a "music based show" filling in a couple of hours on a music radio network.

I know how popular they both are in the world of comedy and what they are primarily known for.

I don't remember it being on Radio 4 myself...It could've been though...

It had a slightly different name and setting on Radio 4 but was essentially the same show.

I agree it was quite fast from radio to telly, but at that time there was a load of shows doing it - such as Ade Edmondson's Teenage Kicks and Flight of the Conchords.

I also agree I'm not sure she'll be any good on a Radio 2 music show. She's useless as a presenter on Have I Got News For You.

I agree with the first half of that - she's more a visual comedienne/comic actor - but I thought she was quite good as chair of HIGNFY. Her outfit sparkled more than she did, certainly, but she presented well and clearly - it doesn't do for every guest in the middle to try to outshine the panellists.

She seems a nice person...

She seems to be a comedienne that appeals to family members...I'll have to go through my archive and see if I can find the Radio 4 version, I bet I have heard it somewhere.

I kept meaning to watch the TV series but forgot but I did hear the radio series...
