A man who downloaded child pornography to his computer has avoided jail after the home secretary asked judges to limit prison terms due to overcrowding.

Looks like it's sent out the wrong image and message to the courts and judges? |

The law of unintended consequences must be alive and well in Mold.
Silly Home Secretary, mischievous Judge or something else altogether?

Get these boats sorted or get 4 in a cell.
I'm sure they could get 2 sets of bunk beds in each cell.
Problem sorted!!!!!!!! _________________ The Voice of reason in a MAD MAD world |

Does this mean the next pedo who downloads stuff can expect to be back home with only a two-year suspended sentence? Not much of a deterrent, is it? Heard a good comment on the JV show at lunchtime today to the effect that HMG should rent jail space from the Greeks - now that would be a deterrent. Why not go further and ask the Turks as well - anyone see "Midnight Express"? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Is it me, or did this change of policy come about just as the police were closing in on the senior Labour party figures involved in the cash scandal? Are they trying to avoid going to jail if & when they are convicted? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I have no time for paedophiles, but the coverage that this received was out of all proportion, bearing in mind that a thug who beat a man unconscious and then stamped on his head also received a non-custodial sentence on the same day. _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

The Royal editor of News of the World is jailed for four months for illegally obtaining info, whilst paedophiles escape jail or receive bail because the jails are full.
Eh?

A judge in Liverpool said Prison overcrowding is not my concern and sent a drug dealer down.
Good on him.
Get 4 in a cell...as long as they are off the streets that is all that matters _________________ The Voice of reason in a MAD MAD world |

Quite right, too. Judges are there to pass sentences where called for. Allocation of prison places is an administrative matter.

Very interesting discussion on JV right now re four possible candidates for one prison cell.
No right or wrong answer, of course, but I'd send the drunk driver.
Other candidates are Royal editor of News of the World, man downloading child porn and perpetrator of pub brawl.
