What do others think about the current stand-off, where RC Bishops are threatening to close adoption agencies if the law forces them to place children with same-sex couples?
Though I'm a Christian, I don't see how the law can only apply to some groups and not others. I also suspect a bit of sabre-rattling here.

I thought religion was about helping others to get along in life, not judging how others live. If they were to close their adoption agencies then they would be depriving a lot of children from a loving home........ to a child, what can be more important than that? |

Ian, I disagree with the church of rome on several matters. They appear to be in favour of doing good but only on their terms. It isn't possible to be anti-discrimination but only for certain groups. The over-riding factor in this debate should be the welfare of the child.
It should not matter if the best place is with a black, chinese, christian, muslim, aetheist, married, cohabiting, single or homosexual parent(s).
Dogma should not overrule common sense _________________ Geddon

Point from letter in today's Telegraph:
If the Catholic Church is being made to comply with anti-discrimination legislation, will it now start to ordain women priests?
Well?

The problem is that many people think that gay men are also paedophiles. They are unable to separate the two, but think that lesbian women can't be paedos. Unfortunately, there are women paedos as well as male, but they are not gay!!! (BTW I'm heterosexual, but have gay friends) _________________ I like cats and music |

The Catholic Church has now been told that it must comply with this anti-discrimination law but can have a 21 month lead-in period.
No doubt this is a genuine attempt to compromise but is it possible that nobody will be very happy with it--the church will regard it as too little and those on the other side of the argument will see it as too much.
