Oh, I'm not one for birthdays, had too many! Razz

But let me tell you what happened last night.

It's Pantomime time! Mrs W's little niece was performing as a page boy in Cinderella at Coventry Belgrade Theatre, about 8 page boys been at since before Xmas, dancing and singing their bit on stage, so a big family night at the theatre was arranged, about 25 of us at last night's performance to see our star performer.

Pantomimes are great fun, and Cinderella is such a laugh with a comedian playing the part of Buttons, and two blokes always dress up as the two Ugly Sisters. The costumes were fabulous.

The script is always different though, and the Coventry production had parts for boyfriends for the Ugly Sisters..... and 'volunteers' are 'selected' from the audience. It was a stitch up, yes myself and mate Sean were the boyfriends, every so often the Ugly Sisters would call on us, up we went to get more costume added, and suffer a SNOG from the ugly sister, who wore A LOT OF LIPSTICK!

What a hoot! And we did our best to ad lib gestures and 'dance' when necessary, to entertain over 800 in the audience. We didn't get drenched in water or shaving foam but the lipstick died my hair! Razz

Sorry but I can't stand Neil Diamond. He only wrote one good song, Cracklin' Rose, and that was over 40 years ago.

I think his best was one of his lesser known tracks

'Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon'

Can't remember which artists covered it but absolutely superb track Very Happy

I also think 'Kentucky Woman' is underated

I'd forgotten that Helen but now I come to think of it I recall the Cliff version was played on SOTS about 12 months ago

The artists I'm thinking of I believe were American and I think it was their only hit record but I can't for the life of me remember their name

I've heard it on the Jeremy Vine Show

Had to Google it! Think the version you are thinking of is by Urge Overkill and I vaguely remember it on JV.

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap also did it, I remember that one as well.

Forget the German version, I'm mixing it up with Cliff singing Ein Girl Wie Du which is the same tune as She Wear's My Ring. Not sure why I confused them...............! Rolling Eyes

Well done Helen, it was the Urge Overkill version I was thinking of but I do now remember Gary Puckett doing it in the late 60s

Anyway whoever performs it I think it's one of Neil's best songs which is not played enough on radio

It's Many Happy Returns today to Alicia Keyes who is 30 today

I not really a fan of her style of music but there are a couple of decent tracks of hers I do enjoy if I'm in the mood

I like Falling and I did like the Empire State of Mind the first 200 times I heard it, there are some drab euro club sounding tracks I don't like but in general I'm the sam as you Rudd, pretty lady too, only 30 been around for ages. Not that she looks older than 30 just seems she's been around for a bit

Re:Etta James. I read in the Sunday Express that she'd been diagnosed with diabetes AND dementia recently.

Isn't it flaming typical that the talented people have all this misfortune and yet the Victoria Beckhams of this world carry on in their own nothing way?

Becky: that indeed is exquisite. And Duffy chose it on Tracks Of My Years on Ken Bruce's show yersterday!

Etta James also did the original of Chicken Shack's 1969 hit I'd Rather Go Blind.

I love Alicia Key's Empire State Of Mind, one of the best songs from last year.

I also loved the Newport Newport version that did the rounds on youtube until it was removed for copyright reasons!

Phil Collins turned 60 yesterday - and I bet that footage of David Armand dancing to You Can't Hurry Love on 'Fast & Loose' was an additional present!

Well I woke up this morning to find I had made it to the grand old age of 56

Quite a nice day so far, my elder son made me breakfast before he left for college , kippers as a special treat and so far I've had three cards and a batch of M&S vouchers not to mention two large dead mice from the cats

I don't want to spoil my appetite though as I'm going to a carvery later on with family and friends but my proper present happens next weekend when we're going down to Cardiff Millennium Stadium to watch the Rugby League Magic weekend which they do every year with four matches on the Saturday and three on Sunday

Can I be cheeky and ask whether anyone can bake me a virtual cake because although I'm alright at cooking I'm absolutely rubbish at baking Smile

Happy Birthday, Rudds, 56 huh. My mum-in-law would say- still just a baby but you are old enough to be my dad, well, almost. I’m not at all certain that as your nemesis I should bake you a virtual cake but since it’s your birthday, and I’m a nice-ish person most of the time, I’m prepared to put aside your undeservedness just for today.

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Ruddles, you share it with my Dad and my friend Jackie who now lives in Texas.

Have a great day, and I can't compete with Rachel's cake!

Thanks to you all for the good wishes and I love the cake Rachel

You don't have to see me as your arch nemesis because there are quite a few things I do agree with you about and it's probably just that we both have strong opinions which don't always coincide particularly when it comes to one Mr Evans

As my screen name suggests I'm quite a pussy cat really but occasionally I do get my claws out when provoked Mad
