As someone who does beleive in God, I still find it somewhat bewildering that in this often militantly atheistic society, it is almost impossible to get away from religious based programbs on the radio on Sunday mornings.
Radio 4 has religious programbing, culminating in an hour of Sunday Worship till 9AM while "Good Morning Sunday" on Radio 2 is also religious based as is the BBC London Inspirit.
I'm sure some of these programbs are quite good & I'm sure some people enjoy them & get something out of them. I just wonder if we need to have them all on at the same time on a Sunday morning.
Between 8 & 9 on Radio 4 of a Sunday morning, personally I'd rather hear the news, political discusion & a review of the Sunday papers.
I do not like the jokey presentation style of Paddy on Broadcasting House either. If I want jokes, i'll find a real comedian. But that's another topic
I know many British people are almost alergic to in your face religion
I just wondered how others felt about sunday morning programbing?

I loathe Aled Jones on Good Morning Sunday, but not as much as I loathed Don McLean in the same slot (the Crackerjack man, not the American Pie man). I never forgave him for making his comment about George Harrison in the week that he died (re:Life Of Brian). He seemed to say nasty things under the guise of caring and sharing - a bit like David Cameron.

On the Bonzo Dog Band's 'Tadpoles' remaster, one of the bonus tracks is 'Craig Torso's Christmas Show' which includes a spoof of the very sanctimonious Pause For Thought, saying how dangerous trousers are! I'm reminded of this when the genuine article is on!

I cannot stand Radio Leeds's contribution to the religious programmes genre, which seems to consist of playing the Edwin Hawkins Singers' Oh Happy Day (why not Lay Down, their collaboration with Melanie?) and Westlife's You Raise Me Up every flaming week in between the usual holier-than-thou business. Someone should send them a crateful of Neal Morse's solo stuff as he quit Spock's Beard to find more money, I mean find God. 'I'm The Man' from 'Cover To Cover' shows up the hypocrisy!

Even though I'm not particularly religious myself I believe that in what is after all a Christian country the Sabbath should be recognised as being different from other days

Whether the balance is right between religious based programmes and pure entertainment shows is of course another matter

I think there are plenty of alternate choices on a host of other stations for people who don't go for the religious angle so I really don't think it's any great problem

I don't actually mind Aled Jones show. I think he is a good presenter, but sometimes I'm not in the mood. Over on LBC at the same time they have that campish, gossipy guy I can't abide.
I like the old tradition of polotics progs on a Sunday, but find Paddy's tee hee hee presentation of Broadcasting House & the silly sound quizes irritating

I enjoy Michael ball's show, but thought Michael Parkinson was much better.

David Jensen's "Another Dimension" is a very fine Sunday 10.00am-1.00pm programme on Planet Rock. If you lot will listen to Radio 2's awful Sunday morning / early afternoon output you get what you deserve!
