A fearless granny has been branded a hero after attacking a gang of jewel-thieves with her handbag.

The incident in Northampton was caught on camera by a passer-by.

Hopefully I will be able to run like that at 70. Laughing

You've got to admire this lady's guts in doing what she did but I had to laugh when I watched the video of the incident

I've never before seen a gang of jewellery thieves using scooters as get away vehicles

Whilst they might be handy to get through small places they're not exactly fast and surely they must have had a fast car parked somewhere

ruddles,

Scooters have often been used in robberies, particularly in pedestrian precincts where cars would be difficult to manoevre and look more conspicuous

Yes John I can see the logic of that but as far as I can recall in this case the area was not pedestrianised and in any case I would have thought a motor bike with a decent sized engine would be a better bet than a small underpowered scooter from the point of view of a fast getaway

Surely they must have had a car waiting somewhere

I wonder if they were stolen scooters and whether they had false plates fitted
If not it would make the gang fairly easy to trace which might explain why they were all rounded up and arrested in double quick time
Of course one of the gang was held by members of the public until the police arrived which is quite unusual these days
