Tim Smith made reference to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin broadcasting from 'Apollo 13' during the factoids. Bzzt.... wrong answer.

Question is, why am I listening to such nonsense? Shocked Rolling Eyes Back to the CDs, methinks....

Armstrong and Aldrin were, of course, Commander and Lunar Module Pilot respectively of 11 - the first landing. How quickly our history is forgotten.... Rolling Eyes

If I'm correct, Armstrong and Aldrin helped to keep Lovell's mom occupied during the landing of Apollo 13 (in case the guys didn't make it back I guess)

That's entirely possible, since the Astronaut corps were a tight-knit community back then.

It was amazing how the news organisations fell over themselves to report on each minute of the mission once Swigert broadcast his famous "Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here" message. Before then, the networks had apparently tried to resist 24 hour coverage of what was to them becoming a non-newsworthy event - hell, it would have been only the third moon landing....

By Apollo 17, the last one (18, 19 and 20 were pulled by NASA), TV stations were receiving complaints from people annoyed that live coverage of the mission was forcing them to miss *re-runs* of "I Love Lucy"! Rolling Eyes

Do you ever feel that Steve Wright just makes up the factoids? The whole show is devoid of any effort, although it still seems to take him all day to record it.

Make them up, is he that clever ?. I thought he just buys books of useless facts and reads them out., or sometimes I've read them on teletext etc days or weeks earlier.

When they try to explain them, I just give up as they normally haven't got a clue what they are talking about. Confused

I think they get them from Wiki and some other websites but don't corroborate them with other sources - Wiki is notoriously inaccurate in some respects. I'd be surprised if they have a team of researchers - or even one - dreaming them up each day.

What do nice but dim or the veggie do during when not on air ?. They only come in at 14:30 and then disappear during the non-non-stop bit, so they have plenty of time to 'research'.
