The Olivier Awards are to be broadcast on tv for the first time in years. They will air on BBC tv, via the red button (and on radio 2) on March 13. More infomation can be found here.

A full list of nominees can be found here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/theatre-news/8308525/Laurence-Olivier-Awards-2011-full-list-of-nominees.html

Have fingers crossed for Emma Wiliams, Michael Xavier and the 'Love Story', tough competition though.

Yes not a bad mix of winners this year...although not seen many of the winners or losers this year to comment on whether the right person won or not. The win for Wicked was a given, just a question of who would win. Wink

I really enjoyed watching "The Oliviers"
Especially liked the performance from Angela Lansbury which I thought was excellent.
Also enjoyed Barry Manilow singing a song from "Finians Rainbow" with Kerry Ellis (mmmmm, she's nice) and the finale where they sang a Stephen Sondheim song, does anyone know what it was called?

The group song with the choir?? It's called 'Our Time' from Stephen Sondheims 'Merrily we role along'.

I enjoyed the theatre footage of the awards but thought the BBC could have arranged the broadcast better. We kept cutting back to the broom cupboard watching radio being broadcast...not good. Interviews could have been included during the interval or at the end of the evening etc. I thought Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball did a good job of hosting ....shame we didn't get to see more. Adrian Lester sang 'Being Alive' brilliantly.

Still better than nothing hopefully next year things will be even better.

Oh thanks Heloise, that's the song, cheers m'dears.
I notice that the lad on the left of the 3 main singers on the Sondheim song was the singer from Dirty Dancing The Musical, I thought he sang really well in that show.
I agree it wasn't great going back to the broom cupboard, but I got used to it after a while.
Legally Blonde seemed to be very popular with the audience there, is it any good?
Why do the critics seem to hate "We Will Rock You" so much too?

The BBC has now apologised for their coverage of the awards

They blame technical problems - Again
