I haven't listened much to Zoe this week but have looked at the 'music played' and have to say it's not been bad (though there was the inevitable ELO song today).

I see she/they played the wonderful Abraham Martin And John by Marvin Gaye two days ago. But I bet she doesn't know what it's about. She probably thinks Abraham Martin And John are all X Factor winners.

And just after Popmaster today the "Toilet Track" played was the Eagle song by Abba, which just goes to show that it doesn't really matter who's in the chair as long as Gary Bones is in control.

I actually think it's disgraceful that one person should be in control of the music played between 9:30 and 12 irrespective of who is hosting but I fear an email of "complaint" would fall upon deaf ears and illicit the "standard reply" that you get from the BBC these days.

I'm listening less and less these days....

I certainly prefer The Eagle (which I believe was an album track) to the usual Abba fodder like Mama Mia.

I agree that Gary Bones has far too much say in musical policy. And his knowledge and tastes are very limited. Has anyone told him that Don't You Want Me was not the only song Human League did? Or The Walker Brothers' No Regrets.

I just can't remember any show on Radio 2 where the producer has been so lazy with his music choices.
I like, "Eagle", "Don't You Want Me", "Ruby" etc but they're not the only songs by the groups I like.
Surely if you are a producer you need to put a little bit of effort into the show!!!

Gaz: I agree entirely. The Kaiser Chiefs had a great CD, Employment, a few years ago. But it's always Ruby.

The producer of Tarrant's show is just as ignorant. I only heard two songs today, one by Led Zep, one by The Stones. Guess which ones! Whole Lot...yep, and Brown Su.. yes, you've guessed.

No wonder Radio 2 weekdays is losing listeners by the droves.

I think what I meant to say was that it's disgraceful that one man gets to play his choice of music. It's not like it ever changes. We seem to getting Gary Bones' Desert Island Discs on a regular basis.

As with the long songs played after Popmaster how many times has Ken been heard to open the show with Loco In Acapulco or The Only Way Is Up?

It's just laziness on GB's part as R2 have a wealth of great music in their archives but he just chooses to play his favourites. I wonder if Ken actually shares any of Gary's passion for some of the rubbish he has to play or whether he just puts up with it.

Colin: your son has very good taste! I agree, the late 60s / early 70s was the classic Stones' era album wise: Beggars Banquet 1968, the immaculate Let It Bleed 1969, the equally brilliant Sticky Fingers 1971, Exile On Main Street 1972 and the overlooked Goats Head Soup 1973.

As for Led Zep, I like their later albums as much as the first four.

Oh well Ken Bruce is back and what a scintillating musical comeback NOT!!!.
At work a couple of us sometimes try and choose the first 3 records that are played on Ken's show and hallelujah I got the first 3 exactly right.
Barry White then "Kids Come Out" by Take That, then a dance remix of "Thunder In My Heart" by Leo Sayer.
What the hell is going on that you can even get close to knowing what a Radio 2 DJ is gonna play????
Then you get the new Hurts, Manics, Gaga etc etc etc.
I know the playlist is inflicted on shows but Ken's is far and away the worst culprit for repeating records.
The only song that should be heard everyday on his show is the record of the week and that's it!!!!!!!!
