Of course. The original brewery was in Henley; I visited it once with an old college buddy who lives in the town. The brewery closed in 2002 (I've discovered via a Google search) and moved to Witney thereafter.

I remember the original Henley Brakspears as being a very tasty brew. I don't know how the current Witney brew compares to the original. According to my 2010 edition of the Good Beer Guide Brakspears was bought by Marstons (of 'Pedigree' fame) in 2007.

I never sampled the produce from the old brewery but right now I'm sipping a pint of Brakspears Double Dropped Bitter

It's OK but nothing to write home about

I'm guessing the original stuff might have been better

The original stuff was lovely - especially when supped at the brewery itself! Smile

Talking of Oxfordshire ales, I drank rather a lot of Hooky on Saturday night at a family re-union in our local pub.

I don't think I ever went round Brakspears' Brewery. Two Oxfordshire Brewerys that I did manage a tour round were Morlands (swallowed up by Greene King) and Morrells (Don't know what became of that one)

The wonderful Adnams Brewery (of Southwold, Suffolk) not only bews some of the best beers in the land but also has a superb website at http://www.adnams.co.uk

If that's not enough, it also has a mighty fine iPhone App as well. It's a pub quiz............ and it's addictive!

I remember Adnams as being one of the first bitters I really enjoyed along with their 'Extra'. 'Broadside' is the one I see most regularly in my neck of the woods, though I wish I had the opportunity to try out a few of the others on their list!
