And how much money does the BBC "invest" in the TRIC's?
Cynical, moi?

Awards pah! They mean nothing!

Ryan Giggs won Sports Personality Of The Year in 2009 but was he?

The Chrysler Alpine won Car Of The Year, when was the last time you saw one of those?

I think it's a waste of time posting anything about Chris Evans, as certain people on here start to slag him off. It's really childish and pathetic.

I take it you were referring to his show?

Yes, the first minutes of the show that I endured this morning certain matched that description, Mark. Award-winning stuff indeed.

Any, that apart, have a look at the first two words of the opening post. Subsequent posts are (shall we say) empathetic, don't you agree?

I like the Chris Evans Breakfast Show. They’re getting some more shelves put up today apparently.

None - http://www.tric.org.uk/main/home.html

The most important and unique thing about the TRIC Awards is that they are voted for not by a panel of judges or a committee, but by the many members of the Industry. It is therefore fair to say that the highest accolade of being an Award recipient is that it is the public who have watched or listened to the winners who deem them to be the best.

The full list of award winners (last year's in brackets):-

Satellite/Digital TV Personality: Eamonn Holmes (Eamonn Holmes)

Digital Radio Personality: Chris Evans (Sir Terry Wogan)

TV Personality: Harry Hill (Harry Hill)

Sports Presenter: Gary Lineker (Gary Lineker)

Newscaster/Reporter: Bill Turnbull (Mark Austin)

TV Weather Presenter: Clare Nasir (Tomasz Schafernaker)

TV Soap Personality: Jessie Wallace (EastEnders Kat Moon) (Ricky Whittle (Hollyoaks Calvin Valentine)

TV Arts/Documentary Programme: Countryfile (Oz and James Drink To Britain)

Satellite/Digital Programme: The Inbetweeners (The Inbetweeners)

HD Drama Programme of the Year: Downton Abbey (Life)

Radio/Digital Radio Programme: The Chris Evans Breakfast Show (The Chris Moyles Show)

TV Reality Programme: Strictly Come Dancing (Strictly Come Dancing)

TV Daytime Programme: Come Dine With Me (BBC Breakfast)

TV Entertainment Programme: Top Gear (Outnumbered)

TV Soap of the Year: Coronation Street (EastEnders)

TRIC Special Award: A Question Of Sport (Barbara Windsor)

As ever, the most fun is to be had in seeing the spectacle some of the celebrities who turn up for these gigs make of themselves

The list is fairly representative of the dire - and unadventurous - state of British broadcasting today, let's face it.

I'm surprised - and disappointed - that "Larkrise to Candleford" didn't get the best award for Best Use of Graduated Lens Filters.

Quite. Broadcasting these days is mainly aimed at the stupid and/or the undiscerning and hence easily satisfied.

Anyone wanting anything of quality has to look REALLY hard.

I had to have a quiet snigger listening to the 11am news on Radio 2 today when it was announced that Chris Patten was being interviewed by a committee with a view to his plan to take over running the BBC from Sir John Lyons

Someone (it could have been Sir John) actually tried to claim that the last few years will in future be seen as a golden age of BBC broadcasting

Are these people living on the same planet as the rest of us or do they inhabit some parallel universe?

Much of the problem is that they seem incapable of seeing just how bad things are and how much standards have deteriorated over the last twenty five years
