According to a reader poll conducted by London magazine Metro, Leona Lewis has been named by as the most influential woman to live or work in London in the past century. The poll was intended to celebrate International Women's Day, which is today.
I have to say I think the readers obviously know their British history and are undoubtedly right! |

The clue is in the question:
Who is your favourite influential London woman?
Favourite. Not "most influential." So out of the options given it's still a strange result but not quite as absurd as it first seems. |

Leona Lewis is the only good thing ever to have emerged from X Factor but despite the fact I've a high regard for her talents I don't think any reasonable person could describe her as influential
She's a product of the old Cowell sausage machine albeit a very talented one compared to the usual standard of artists he inflicts on us

I assume the question relates to the CURRENT century, not the PAST century. The most influential woman of the past century is undoubtedly Margaret Thatcher (even if not the most popular),but there has not really been any influential woman of the current century - poor field of also rans. Leona Lewis is a passable karaoke singer, I suppose, but influential ?? I think not...................

Oh, it's the Brosettes model again, where something throwaway gets voted as really important (as in 'I Owe You Nothing' being voted by easily impressionable fans of Bros as Best Single Of All Time on a Radio 1 listeners' poll).
See also an Emmerdale star dancing to Putting On The Ritz and denying Noel Fielding his rightful win on Let's Dance For Comic Relief.

At least, those Metro readers who bothered to vote. |

I didn't see all of the programmes but saw the final and I LOVED Noel's dance....some of the others must have been awful for Katie Price's effort to get her into the final and it's not just an excuse to have a go at her ...she didn't do any dancing, she just pushed a hoover round the floor....
I would have loved Noel to have won but I thought all the top three acts were very entertaining so I voted for all of them !! ..  |

Katie Price didn't get enough votes to win outright but was still marginally better than the other person the panel had to pick from. But some of the most entertaining dancers failed to get through to the final (Ed Byrne, Marcus Brigstocke) while some mediocre ones did (80s Supergroup).
As for the winners - well, I don't think doing what you were taught at stage school is really in the spirit of the show! |

Well they entertained me, in a comical way, so for me it was in the spirit of the show.....  |
