It's just been reported that Elizabeth Taylor, one of the 20th Century's biggest movie stars, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 79. Her many films included National Velvet, Cleopatra and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

The double Oscar-winning actress had a long history of ill health and was being treated for symptoms of congestive heart failure.

PS: Marko's news agency must surely have lost its contract now, yes?

Someone once called her "The Last Star" which is about right. That epithet is much overused these days but La Taylor was indeed a real star.

I think Marko's news agency may have gone on strike...

No, I don't think so, he has a much better tag line than yours, Colin, and his purpose, comes from the goodness within him

Even you were slow on this one Colin

I heard the sad news reported by JV at 1.30pm today but, not being a film buff, I thought I'd leave it to someone who is to do the first post (actually thinking about it do I really mean the last post Confused )

Yes, realise that - and the reason for my little note about Marko! Smile

I've not been monitoring and broadcast media today because I've had to shut myself away and concentrate on work in hand, but I did see the news on a brief check of the BBC website to catch up on Budget news.

There was quite an interesting feature on our regional news programme here yesterday evening which mentioned that although Elizabeth Taylor is always stated as having been born in London a local historian has uncovered evidence that she was actually born in Hartford near Northwich in Cheshire

Apparently her mother Sarah when heavily pregnant went with her husband to a party in Hartford and whilst there her labour started and her baby was born soon afterwards

The couple went back to London the next day and registered the birth as having happened in London which seems slightly strange but apparently the 'party' they attended was what I guess we would today called a swingers party so clearly it would have been embarrassing to all concerned if the truth had come out especially in those days

Don't ask me why a heavily pregnant woman would have wanted to attend such an event but apparently there is some local woman whose mother was in service at the time and who was present when all this happened

At first I wondered whether it was an April fool done a few hours early

Did anyone else see the feature and if so does anyone have any thoughts on it?

I read the article Ruddles, didn't see the news last night though. Strange story.
