Richard Branson is considering buying back the former Virgin Radio..
Quote: | The Daily Telegraph understands Sir Richard's Virgin Radio International will make a bid today for Absolute Radio. The radio group is being sold by its Indian owner TIML Radio, part of Bennett Coleman, just three years after they acquired the group without the Virgin brand for £53.2m and renamed it Absolute Radio.
Others understood to be making indicative, non-binding offers by today's deadline include talkSPORT owner UTV, Global Radio and Orion Media, the Midlands-based radio group. Interest has also come from Bauer Media, owner of Magic 105.4. |

I can't see Global buying it.. I would like the name Virgin Radio back with a freshened up station.. Although the station has some fantastic shows.. Classic Rock Party and 80's... |

I haven't listened to what was Virgin for about ten years. I really enjoyed it until they started claiming to play 'classic album tracks'. Classic album tracks, my arse, all they played was the obvious stuff, My Sweet Lord etc. I might as well have been listening to JW's SOT70s.
One good thing about Virgin though: Lynn Parsons introduced me about 15 years ago to the excellent Southern Man by Neil Young. |

I really liked Virgin at its inception and the station showed a lot of promise (even though it was on AM only outside London) but it really screwed up when that prat Evans got involved.
I can't say too much about Absolute though because I did a fair bit of work for them (or, more particularly, Baddiel & Skinner's company Avalon) last year so I'll keep schtum....... |

I agree about bl**dy Evans. I remember on one of his shows he played just two songs in half an hour and spent the rest of the time talking/shouting. |
