It is reported today that 70s ecowarriors The Wombles are to reform specially to play the Glastonbury Festival on 26th June.
They will perform on the Avalon Stage along with the likes of KT Tunstall and Newton Faulkner.
Apparently to coincide with this their four chart albums are to be rereleased so that a whole new generation of fans can appreciate their 'impact' on music almost forty years ago.
I reckon it's either a cunning plan by Mike Batt to top up his pension or perhaps in these financially straightened times the organisers need a bit of free help clearing up the site when the event has finished _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Who were the Wombles (I mean inside the suits) ?.
I heard Chris Spedding was one, and he'll be 67 in June . |

I'm not sure anyone knows for certain Nod, but I do remember Chris Spedding - biggest hit 'Motorbiking' as I recall
I have to say Mike Batt in my view is a very talented musician and arranger despite the fact he is possibly most famous for producing some fairy naff tracks
I had to smile when I heard about this today
Just picture the scene - a boiling hot day ( June 26th was the day England played Germany last year, the hottest day of the year) Crowding round the Avalon stage are loads of beautiful girls clad in scanty bikinis and bronzed adonis blokes with their children sitting on their shoulders
On stage the furry beasts are singing their hearts out and the crowd really love them so much so that they join in with the music - and all around the festival site can be heard the refrain ' We Wish You a Wombling Merry Christmas' _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Robin Le Mesurier (son of John) was one, and I think some of Steeleye Span wore the Womble suits for Top Of The Pops. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I guess they may recruit some younger people to don the famous Womble outfits this time round but in a way it would be good to have the originals whoever they were
I was a big Steeleye fan in the 70s and still am but I don't recall any talk of monkeying around with Wombles suits but of course the link could have been Mike Batt who produced Steeleye's album 'All Around My Hat'
Incidentally there are many good folk-rock tracks on that album such as 'Black Jack Davy' and 'Hard Times of Old England' to name just a couple, but unfortunately people always associate it with the title track which was OK but by no means the best on the album _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
