How can Mayo's show get Best Music Programme? I'm not a regular listener, as half the show is chatter, and chatter not about music, though I have to say looking at yesterday's playlist I only know 4 tracks that were played so at least the music isn't the bland fodder heard on other stations. _________________ -

I've long thought that Simon Mayo clearly has the most comprehensive musical knowledge of all the daytime presenters on Radio 2 but it's a shame he doesn't always display it in his current show unlike the position when he was on Radio 1
Drivetime however is always a great listen in my experience but sadly I can't often listen at that time of day unless I happen to be driving
At least it makes a change for someone different to get an award compared to the usual suspects _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Anyone offered a daytime role on R2 is almost guaranteed a Sony Radio Award at sometime. If Evans can do it, then so can anybody, next up Miss Felltz.
Sorry Mayo doesn't do it for me, unless I'm looking to grab a quick nap, boring yawn making radio...... |

I actually think the music on Drivetime is pretty good. A lot of it is suggested by listeners via his blog for the theme of the day.

Seems to have been a typically even spread for the awards again, although with a laddish and nerdy touch this year.
Was Jeremy Vine's interview with Gordon Brown particularly good? His one with Ed Milliband got all the headlines. |

You have to hire presenters who bring other Radio & TV networks into disrepute. Well done to Talk Sport for winning station of the year Annie Nightingale wins a Special Award, which she deserves.. 5 Live wins the breakfast show award.. Again.

Talk Sport hired Andy Gray and Richard Keys who bought Sky Sports into disrepute, and Russell Brand presented on the station for a while.
Mayo won't be on this Evening as he's now too big to host Drivetime Joking. Richard Allinson is only covering for one day.
Did anyone watch some of the webcast? Chris Evans hosted the show and wasn't in a black suit and bow tie. He was dressed in a sandy coloured suit and hawaiin shirt. BBC Surrey breakfast presenter Nick Wallis was doing back stage interviews, and Broadcaster Fiona Cotterill was also doing the webcast during the break.

Well it was the moment that his calling Gillian Duffy a bigot came out on air...........so I guess that made it good. I don't recall the one with Ed Miliband.

Vanessa was nominated but didn't win. She took it well though. |

Simon thoroughly deserves this award if for nothing else than restoring some sanity to Drivetime.
IMO he is doing as good a job as JW did with good music, banter and some fantastic interviews with fantastic guests from the music world and beyond.
The mark of a good interviewer is to be able to ask a question and then develop on that theme without the need of a set of scripted questions that bear no relation to the previous one and without the need to ask the interviewee to name their ten favourite sandwich fillings or some such infantile nonsense.
I have had the great pleasure of meeting Ken Bruce on more than one occasion and I once remarked to him that his Sony Award was "just round the corner". I believe it was just after CE had got his Sony Award which was probably why it prompted me to make that remark. His reply was, "Oh well, maybe in another 20 years".
Sad, but probably true. |

Ken well and truly deserves one Angus. A very underated broadcaster IMHO.
Can't agree more about the Drivetime either.
