No Schiz, Santa is way off target with this one

However when you talk about sportsmen you are getting close because the link is in the area of sport and that's quite a big clue

Bet that keeps you awake tonight Shocked

As I'm feeling generous as promised I will tell you the track I originally played in the pub version which I said I altered for Becky's benefit
It was

I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls

You must get it now Schiz especially considering where you live

As neither Schiz or anyone else has yet got the link in this case, being a kind sole, I have decided I will give you a further track around this time on a Sunday every week until someone successfully works out the correct answer so here goes

Shaker Maker- Oasis

Well done Schiz you've won a case of virtual beer

Now would you and others like to guess the fourth track in the link

I know I previously gave you more than the initial three tracks but I have still not posted the fourth track I played when I did this live in the pub

I think you should get it as it is quite well known Very Happy

Rockin' Robin - Jackson 5
Bluebird - Wings

Plenty more and I'll get it in the end.

Still thinking, Ruddles!

How about: The Wanderer, Any Old Iron, If I Had A Hammer, Heroes And Villains.
Think we need a clue, ie year of hit or rough location of the club.

OK Schiz I'll give you a clue

The football club concerned is in the Midlands and the link is in the title of the track not in the artists name who had many big hits in the eighties

Hope that helps

Well Done Schiz you got it right
Just to show how many answers there were I thought I would post a selection of the wrong ones I had in the pub version

HEART of Glass - Blondie
The Lone RANGER - Tonto
SILK and STEEL - 5 Star
Night OWL - Gerry Rafferty
Fireflies - OWL City
TIGER Feet - Mud
Eye of the TIGER - Survivor
I'm a TIGER - Lulu
A FOREST - Cure
Special BREW - Bad Manners
RAM Jam - Black Betty
Hungry Like the WOLF - Duran Duran
Woolly BULLY - Sam the Sham etc
Message to Martha (Kentucky BLUEBIRD)- Adam Faith
Hotel California - The EAGLES
Tommy GUN - The Clash
HAMMER to Fall - Queen
Sledge HAMMER - Peter Gabriel
If I had a HAMMER - Trini Lopez
The SAINTS are Coming - Skids
Pied Piper - Crispian SAINT Peter
PILGRIMage - Wishbone Ash

But pride of place has to go to a lady who is a keen Norwich City fan who came up with CANARY ly Take You Home Little Girl - The Drifters

I gave her a prize for coming up with the most inventive answer I have ever had - wish I'd thought of that Smile

OK Schiz as you sucessfully arrived at the corresct answer it is your chance to set the next link if you wish next time you are on the forum
Otherwise anyone else may set one after seven days or if nobody does I'll do so myself

Nobody having set a new Think Link I think it falls to me once again so here goes:

Jessie - Joshua Kadison
Circle in the Sand - Belinda Carlisle
Put Yourself in My Place - Isley Brothers

I think this is quite an easy one but the fourth track is a killer
Anyway first of all what's the link please?

Well done Angel - you're spot on

As to where the Isley Brothers track fits in just think about it

PUT yourself in my Place as in putting on a green
Remember the spelling isn't important and it's the sound of the word that counts and believe me in the pub version I've used some far more tenuous links than that Laughing

So now I need the title and artist for the fourth track in the link and as I said earlier this is a very difficult one so I'm going to give you a decent clue

The link is in the track title not the artists name and was a big hit in the late 70s and the link refers to a type of golf shot

The track itself was seen as groundbreaking at the time of first release and paved the way for a whole trend of similar music in the early 80s

If you have a reasonable knowledge of golf and 70s music you should come up with the answer but if nobody does after a reasonable time I'll put you out of your misery and post the correct answer

Oh and by the way Angel I'll pour you a virtual glass of wine for your efforts

Thanks, I'll have Cabernet Sauvignon please.

I'll guess Fade to Grey by Visage (although I think that ws the early 80s).

You've got it Angel

It was actually late 70s I think you will find but no matter - you got the right answer so I can now offer you a case of virtual champagne Very Happy

You can now set a new link should you wish but if you choose not to I'll set a fresh one towards the end of next week

I've got one but it might be too easy:

Absolute Beginners by David Bowie
The Carnival is Over by The Seekers
Never Ever by All Saints

Actually, I'm going to change my link slightly, as I don't think I've done it quite right, ie with the subject link being either in the song title or the artist's name. So the new link is:

The Carnival is Over by The Seekers
Never Ever by All Saints
I Predict a Riot by The Kaiser Chiefs

I'm really struggling on this one Angel

My first thought was radio stations but clearly not now

Is there any sporting link like American football teams or baseball?

I've just had an idea

Is the link Notting Hill in London?

Well done Ruddles, you deserve a pint of Riggwelter. Very Happy I told you it was easy.

I'm afraid my fourth link doesn't conform strictly to the rules either, so I'll give some big clues. It's by a band formed in the area and the song is a response to events they experienced there.

Unfortunately I know bugger all about London Angel but I'll guess

London Calling - The Clash

I wondered about the track Absolute Beginners
Was that in the film 'Notting Hill'?

Nearly right Ruddles but not quite.

The book and the film Absolute Beginners was set in Notting Hill in the 1950s. David Bowie sang the theme tune to the film.

Ruddles: Fade To Grey was actually a hit in early 1981!

By the way, I don't get the connection between the song and golf. I know bugger all about golf as you can probably tell.

Schiz, A 'fade' shot is a type of slice shot

I believe it might be the opposite of a hook shot but I'm no expert

As for the track itself we'll have to agree to split the difference since on checking it was apparently released in late 1980 so my apologies for being 'one year out' as a certain person would say Smile

Angel, when you said I was nearly right I need a bit more of a clue because as I said I don't know much about London although I do know quite a bit about music

Was I right with the artists or am I looking for a track with the word 'London' in the title?

Or if neither is true could you give some indication as to the year the track was in the charts

Ruddles, you were right with the artist but not with the song. The song doesn't have anything about London in the title as such, but it was apparently inspired by the Notting Hill Carnival of 1976.

Oh right it's a miracle I got the artist right

I'll have a final guess at 'Should I stay or Should I Go'

If that's not right I'm afraid I'll have to give up

For the idea of this thread to work it is really essential that the link MUST be in either the track title or the artists name otherwise the whole thing tends to get too obscure

Of course when I do this live in the pub the audience doesn't get told the names of the tracks I'm playing or the names of the artists so it makes it far more difficult than on this forum Smile

That's fine Angel go ahead

I was rather hoping a few others would set some new links because if they're good ones I can use them in my regular live pub quizzes because I sometimes come close to running out of ideas

Don't worry though - I've got at least a year's worth of old ones to keep us going on here Very Happy

Here we go then:

You’re Out of Your Mind by The True Steppers featuring Victoria Beckham and Dane Bowyers
Angels by Robbie Williams
(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais by The Clash

I hope it's not too easy Smile
