Two Police dogs which were left in a car over the hot weekend have died. One was a Belgian Malanois and the other is a German Shepherd puppy. This happened last year when two police dogs died and the officer was prosecuted.

Really sad news.

The experienced police dog handler slashed his wrists when he knew his dogs had died.

This guy should be prosecuted for animal cruelty and banned from both owning and working with animals for the rest of his life

After all it's not very long since an almost identical incident happened in another police force area and if he didn't learn from that sad episode quite frankly the man must be completely stupid

He should be named and shamed immediately and I find it annoying that he will obviously get free treatment on the NHS for his 'injuries'

He has been named and shamed, and tried to kill himself, is that good enough for you ruddles? Or shall we let him try again? Rolling Eyes

John, it's a free country and if someone behaves so stupidly that he then decides he wants to end his life that's his freedom of choice - it's not for you or me to judge

Suicide is no longer a crime in this country and hasn't been for many years as against assisting suicide which still is

When I was young the police used to go round putting up notices about how animals can die in hot temperatures in cars so yet again it seems to me like one law for ordinary Joe Public and some much lower standard for our so called guardians of law and order

I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for this man whatsoever and as this subject is being discussed on the JV show today it will be very interesting to see what other people have to say

Well it's astonishing to discover that this officer was apparently involved in a previous incident two years ago in which a dog died whilst in his care in virtually identical circumstances

I'm sorry but I think that fact alone undermines his claim to be distraught over the latest incident

It's a pity he wasn't dismissed from his duties after the first incident in which case two helpless animals might be alive today instead of suffering what must have been horrendously slow and painful deaths

How can any police officer be guilty of criminal behaviour and remain in post?

Anyone who seeks to defend such behaviour truly is guilty of trying to defend the indefensible in my view
