Apparently the Northern part of the USA is having its coldest winter weather for 30 years.

How does this sit with global warming?

Ian.

It doesn't, but the scientists will hand-wave it away with some fancy words - like "it's a blip", or something similar.

It would be good to see some objective commentary on all of this.

According to where you search,

A) most of the temparture increase happened pre-1940 (ie. pre the period of highest carbon output by humans) or

B) we are in a naturally ocurring cycle (ie. the orbit of the Earth's rotation around wobbles slightly every now and then which means that when we vere slighly further from the sun it gets colder and when we vere slightly closer it gets warmer) or

C) we are already doomed to global warming happening because of man's activities in which case adapting to the new reality is surely better than trying to turn back an inevitable tide

I have no way of knowing if any of these are right or wrong.

One thing I know for sure though. I wont find out by reading any of the newspapers or watching the BBC's output.
