Anyone else a fan of this? I love it for the great ensemble acting of the four main characters.
Last night (was I dreaming?) suddenly in the middle of the episode for no apparent reason the EastEnders titles came up   |

It's been one of my 'must see' shows for a few years now. I don't remember Eastenders chipping in at any point during it.
Would such a dream be classed as a nightmare?!

My Lord (bobs a curtsey) may I respectfully suggest that either (a) I saw a version in Hampshire which differed from yours in Cloud Cuckoo Land, or (b) (bobs an even deeper curtsey) you nodded off? 
I only say this because I made the same point on The Archers MB and someone on there noticed it too.
I'm going to look at iPlayer but the Beeb has probably edited it by now. |

I can't say I noticed the Eastenders titles either - although it's not beyond the realms of possibility that I nodded off briefly.  |

| I've looked on iPlayer but of course it wasn't there. I remember where it came in the programme. It was when they were in the office looking at the big wall map and it seemed as if the camera was zooming in on the relevant area of London but it was the EE title sequence including the music. Very odd. |

I'm a fan as well Eileen, but no sign of Eastenders! However you weren't the only one to have the problem as I read somewhere that others experienced the same as you.

According to my Sunday paper it's often the Beeb's top show, even beating Eastenders.
I thoroughly enjoy it because the cast fit together well and give the impression they's having a good time

Sadly James Bolam has quit. There are another two series commissioned so I wonder what they will do. Bring in a new character or carry on with three

We can but hope H but he's said he's had enough. I believe they are trying to negotiate a cameo for the start od the next season

He is 74 years of age so maybe he wants to retire. In real life I believe he's married to Susan Jameson who's the other one's wife in the series. I forget his name, senior moment as Wogan would say!

He's actually 76 but what's 2 years among friends  sad to see him go but I can't blame him at all if he wants to retire.
I think I would prefer it if the carried on with three but wrote jack out properly i.e without sounding harsh they could officially kill him, or just retire him or make him redundant.
I love new tricks and I do think it will survive without James as good as he is. I think the other 3 leads are too strong for it not to, particularly Alun Armstrong who is incredible. |

Sorry to revive and old thread but given that dear old Jack has finally been written out I thought it was better than starting a new one.
Sad ending to last night's episode, I think it's the first time New Tricks has made me feel a bit weepy.
A bit of an unusual episode all round with a great guest appearance from Tim Mckinnery playing what can only be described as a git. |

And doing it so convincingly! .. 
I also got teary at the end ...some nice acting from Alun Armstrong and James Bolan ...will miss Jack
The ending, which was unusually accompanied by some music to reflect what had just gone on, was totally spoilt by the crass continuity person

| I think I read somewhere that Alun Armstrong and Amanda Redman are also leaving - that only leaves Denis Waterman, which surely means the future of the series isn't viable. |

Very convincing indeed, brilliant performance from him, it made you really want to punch him.
I take it he knew Jack was going to do that as he had nothing to lose, all the same what a slimy so and so (Stephen not Jack).
I hear Dennis Lawson is joining the cast, I don't know if he'll be effectively replacing Jack in the team or if he's in another kind of role.
I do hope Alun Armstrong does not leave, the whole cast are great but he's in a class of his own, his portrayal of Brian with alcoholism and OCD has been quite superb. |

Nice to see Brian & Esther chatting at the end about Jack, I was worried that the burden might make him start drinking again.
I wonder if he may end up telling Sandra or Gerry as well, mind you I don't think Gerry woud be able to keep quiet about it. |
