As some of you will know, I've been a dedicated follower of the pirate radio station Radio Caroline since it first came on air fired a loud shot across the bows of the establishment on Easter Sunday 1964.

Sadly (but not wholly surprisingly) the ship from which the station broadcast - the MV Mi Amigo - sank in a ferocious North Sea storm 13 miles off Clacton on March 20th, 1980.

As I had little else to do that day, I set about grabbing a recording of as many radio news bulletins as I could. The result was a C60 audio cassette full of recordings from BBC Radio One, Radio Two, Capital Radio London and LBC. Also featured are a couple of IRN (Independent Radio News) feeds supplied by LBC into all ILR local commercial radio stations.

I've produced an edited version of this tape for some people involved with the Radio Caroline organisation and have just uploaded it to SoundCloud from where it can be streamed right now - visit http://snd.sc/pc1Ykq

Radio Two followers will find some of the station's jingles and style of news delivery rather quaint!

PS: It's such a pity that the SoundCloud feed can't be embedded into phpBB2!

Sorry Colin. This just doesn't seem to want to work for me. On any server.

Can't think why. Works OK for me when clicking the link anonymously. It's only on one server (Soundcloud), by the way.

When I used the link it took a long time to load , then I got a screen that looks like a dump of information, part way down is a link saying PLAY which then plays the audio, not exactly user friendly.

Seems to work here http://soundcloud.com/colin-barrett

Interesting because SoundCloud is very user friendly in terms of its application design. I don't know why you've experienced problems but I've checked on a completely different computer and it all works very fast - with the stream kicking in immediately. The iPhone App works flawlessly too!

Oh well....

Ah yes, a browser issue. Could it be that the non-W3C-compliant Microsoft Internet Explorer (yuck) was causing the problem? I wouldn't be surprised if it were the culprit. Chrome's much better anyhow - and it complies with current web standards.

Sorry to be rather late on this, but I have just listened and absolutely loved it. Great to hear snippets from fantastic, true professionals like Dave Cash and the inimitable (IMHO) Roger Scott, one of the greatest ever disc jockeys/presenters, and very sadly missed.
