I didn't realise until today that this event was to be held on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. I hardly think that it will be appropriate to have the raucous behaviour of a certain DJ on that day.

Knowing him, I'm surprised he didn't choose to do it in Central Park in Manhattan

Now that I would love to have seen

Put it this way I think that very soon there might have been another memorial there as well as the Lennon one Smile

I knew the date a while ago and was very surprised, but maybe another date wasn't available.

That's what I feared, no doubt the Shouty One told them to ditch it in favour of his "Look-at-me-I'm-so-fabulous" event Rolling Eyes

It always displaces my Sunday night music programmes.

I'm all for people enjoying themselves but they usually mix the sound so the screaming of the crowd there spoils the music we are supposed to be enjoying anyhow.

They probably feel enough time has passed to hold other events, other than memorials to 9/11, which is largely an American "thing" anyway. We (the UK) got dragged into it as Blair saw it as his opportunity to be seen as a "Great World Leader". Evil or Very Mad
After all, where where the Americans when we were holding memorials to IRA terrorist attacks in the UK for decades? Oh, how forgetful of me- they were helping to fund the IRA weren't they..... Sad

Your point is very well made PJ and I agree with you

It just seems a shame that we have to put up with something even worse than the memorials of the last few years Sad

Do the Americans worry about holding anything on July 7th? no? thought not. What about the dates of countless IRA attacks? what about the Libyan Embassy siege? (R.I.P Yvonne Fletcher) What about the Omagh Bombing?

I could go on but I think I've made my point.

Do the majority of Americans actually know where the UK actually is? A few years back I had a telephone conversation with a guy from New York who - when discovering that I was calling him from England - asked: "England? Is that anywhere near London?".

Actually, even though it was in America 9/11 was the worst single terrorist attack against UK citizens.

I heard this trailer just before the Pete Townshend documentary! 9/11 also happened at a time when my family were trying to deal with the loss of my brother, and the eventual loss of my aunt.

I was on holiday with my mum the year the 7th July bombings happened and my sister rang our hotel to ask us if we were all right!

But it was directed at the USA and Americans in general. The fact that Brits got caught up in the atrocity didn't really concern the perpetrators- and I very much doubt it concerned many Americans either...

Wogan still doing the Prawns in the Park on the Saturday I see. He's also doing a few bits for the Sunday concert. A couple of fools on the stage over those two days. Laughing

I wouldn't exactly call Wogan a fool. He certainly did a good job on the breakfast show (the last person to manage this).

Good point, well made LEE.
Are we really becoming so Americanised that it's even changing the way we read dates now?

Its been said by someone on Digital Spy that Lionel Ritchie has cancelled his appearence but no mention if someone else is taking his place or the rest will perform for longer...

I also discovered today that tickets for the event are not free but are costing approx £33.

Is this the gig, currently being trailered, where you get shouted at by Evans? If so then I wouldn't pay 33p, never mind £33 for that dubious 'privilege'!

Lionel Ritchie has indeed pulled out due to illness. Chic have been called in as emergency replacements and the Ginger Goit will be announcing another additional act on his show in the morning.

Imagine turning up to a gig/live festival and finding out it was being hosted/shouted by Chris Evans....

Now that would be my own personal 9/11..... Shocked

Some of the concert has been put on the red button feature on digital platform from 6am this morning.

And on the BBC website too.

I haven't heard much of the concert but will work my way through it in coming days...I wasn't impressed with what I did catch.

As has been said I wouldn't have parted with £32.50 to stand there for the whole day and not for Chris Evans. Not really sure with so many BBC presenters there that he needed to do as much as he did.

And using Gary Barlow's appearance, why did we not hear his set from the beginning?

Still unsure whether the event was at Hyde Park and broadcast by the BBC or a BBC event held there and the tickets were a kind of payment to those who who run Hyde Park.

They could've dropped the interview with Lenny Kravitz to hear him from the start.

Didn't hear any of it and certainly wouldn't waste my time listening again to it.

I'd guess we'll hear bits in various shows this week anyway.

I would assume it was a BBC event organised in Hyde Park seeing as there were similar events in other parts of the country. It's not uncommon to pay for tickets to BBC shows at non-BBC venues. For instance, it happens at recordings of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and Just A Minute.

They did what? Rolling Eyes When will media people realise that popstars have nothing to say in interviews - especially not over-rated hasbeens like Lenny Kravitz!

Helen,
I'll skip great chunks(I think the better music seemed to be on earlier in the day)

Ian,
I'd forgotten about the charging to see ISIHAC at certain venues around the country, it happened when the show was staged at a local theatre...

Yes, the interview with Lenny told us nothing of importance except that he'd enjoyed playing the event and he'd been ill with flu but made the effort to appear...not nice but that was really all he said. It had been recorded earlier by Ken Bruce so they played it it only laste maybe 2 minutes if that.

When it ended, Gary was already in the middle of what I assume was his opening song.

To be honest they dragged the event out and it probably could have been done in five hours rather than seven.

I think that I enjoyed the Proms In The Park more the previous night(I remembered about the red button and it being shown live)I haven't bothered other years and Mum enjoyed seeing Russell Watson, Rold Harris and Katherine Jenkins. And we still had the most important part of the Last Night Of The Proms included too.

I certainly have no wish to listen to any of Radio 2's output from yesterday and on the subject of the Last Night of the Proms I thought that was also pretty disappointing

For one thing what in the name of sanity were Westlife doing anywhere near the place?

What happened to the selection of British sea songs which for years has been part of the long standing tradition of the last night?

And just to cap it all when the young conductor came to the point of doing the traditional speech we did not hear a large part of it owing to microphone failure

Sadly yet another great British tradition going rapidly downhill Rolling Eyes

You'll notice I never mentioned Westlife Razz

The problem with the mikes was Embarassed I couldn't decide if it was a mike problem or more some problem getting the radio signal into the system back stage.

Yes it would've been great to have the sea shanties still included...I think they were done at the Proms in the Park...

The Proms at the Albert Hall had some long piece with Jenny Agutter narrating it...

It seemed the first half was much heavier than usual?
