Is it just me but I thought Tony played a somng by Brotherhood of Man...he introduced it and back announced it and also gave it a mention in the chart run down and kept calling Angelo and the one played was not Angelo...might've been called Boy?

Was he or the production crew listening?

He played Oh Boy! and corrected his mistake in the 2nd hour after getting numerous messages pointing it out.

Interestingly The Double Top Ten Show on Smooth tonight covered 1977 also and they managed to play the correct track by the Brotherhood of Man without any problem at all

I thought the POTP problem showed a great lack of professionalism which was surprising from a broadcaster of Tony's experience and a producer like Phil Swern
Clearly mistakes do happen but he should have cut short the track played in error, moved on to the next chart track and played Angelo after that

If time was insufficient he could quite easily have made it up by omitting a trailer or a couple of jingles Rolling Eyes

Perhaps the worst mistake was playing Brotherhood Of Man in the first place, regardless of the song. Mind you, if the great British public insist on buying this drivel I suppose we should get punished for it 34 years later.

While I like Tony and POTP I'm getting weary of the constant jingles. A bit of nostalgic fun to begin with but now they are starting to grate

The first set of jingles played occasionally were fine! But the new set added recently are a) rubbish and b) played too frequently.

1963 wasn't a particularly good year IMHO (though I loved Syd Lawrence and Eddie Gorme, spelling?, which POTP played today).
Thank God The Beatles and Stones and other British groups came along the following year to change things forever.

The Beatles were there in 63 Schizoid! I saw them live on 23 November of that year (the night after JFK) and they topped the charts 3 times and had a no 2 with their other single!

I Want To Stay Here is a fab track!

I can't say I was overkeen on the 1963 hour yesterday but at least it was an improvement on the 1960 hour inflicted on us a few weeks ago

1973 was good though but not as good as last week when they covered 1968 and 1986 which were two of the best years for music in my view

That was the first time I have listened to the show again on I Player not just once but three times Very Happy

That was a couple of weeks later Ian! The same day as the Beatles were on Juke Box Jury and had a special concert from Liverpool!

Can't recall which came first but Dr Who preceded them. I can remember hiding behind the sofa at a friend's house being rather scared of the Daleks, I was 11 at the time! I had a reel tape recording of the Beatles that my Dad made but it got lost about 15 years ago, the sound was lousy as the Beeb messed up big style on the day. I found the very one on You Tube a couple of years ago by chance and recorded that for posterity, as it was pretty much the same as I'd heard them play live.

The Beatles ticket was 5/- and wasn't a bad seat in the circle of the Newcastle City Hall. I wish I'd kept that ticket now but it must have been thrown away soon afterwards. I saved the programme which had no date on and sold it for £50 about 10 years ago.

Schizoid, it was STEVE Lawrence & Eydie Gorme who did 'I Want To Stay Here'.

Syd Lawrence was a bandleader who specialized in Glenn Miller orchestra - type arrangements!
