I am surprised to find yesterday that Radio 3 are closing the existing messageboards. They will be replaced by show-specific forums.

The most successful current forum there is/was a general 'Classical Music on R3' forum which often discusses music NOT on R3 and they have a Waffle thread and a Musical Connections thread etc etc.

Compared to old R2MB the CMoR3 was a harmless place, very little needed moderating, as far as I know.

Our sister organisation 'Friends of Radio 3' (R0R3) do not have their own forum, yet. I've been in touch with them and they are talking to folks at BBC R3 to try and persuade some sort of 'general' forum to stay.

I've had my say over at CMoR3 Smile

At least on Radio 3, schedule changes have been well signalled in advance (either through leaks or other sources the March changes were known since November) so that topic has probably been diiscussed quite a lot already on the 3 message boards.

Seems like the BBC does not want it's shows discussed and dissected in open forums.

Looks like the BBC are tightening there budget slightly more. I could see all the boards go one day?

I wonder how safe the 6music message boards are going to be. It looks like they've still got a full compliment of topics, including a 'feedback' board.

As long as Andrew Collins doesnt go on a rant I think they are reasonably safe. I'm sure the posters all know each other over there anyway. If 400,000 listen to the station and 0.01% post on the message board that would make it 40 posters.

I find 6 music is a good listen in the afternoon. It's my refuge from the R2 afternoon dross. Liz Kershaw's good on Saturday mornings too.

The news has obviously caused meltdown over there - the BBC Radio sites can't be reached at the moment.

The new Radio 2 MBs have gone very quiet, and the change to reactive moderation has not helped. Although in theory the mods aren't reading all posts I think there must be one who gets very grumpy on a Friday - perhaps the office decamps to the pub and don't invite him/her - and throws out anything that goes remotely off-topic. The thread to remember Heather, five months and 200+ responses old, keeps getting put in the host's in-tray.

It's only a matter of time before they turn their attention to The Archers; then we'll see fur fly.
