I heard on the lunchtime news that David Croft, the wonderful comedy writer, has died in Portugal.

He was the co-writer and/or director/producer of so many popular and well-loved comedy series including Dad's Army, 'Allo, 'Allo, Hi-De-Hi, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Are You Being Served?, Oh Doctor Beeching etc.

IAHHM is of course deemed too politically incorrect these days to warrant repeats but I have many fond memories of that show.

A superb comedy writer who was the brains behind so many wonderful comedy series - the type of thing we simply don't see today in this era of warped alleged comedy

As for political corectness I think that deserves the old two finger salute

They still show the famous Fawlty Towers episode where the major talks about 'wogs' and 'niggers' on both UK Gold and Comedy Central so I really can't see why we can't be entertained with a spot of IAHHM

Comedy is of its own time and just because life changes it doesn't in any way devalue such original ideas - and for that reason nobody in our era should take offence

There's a tribute night on BBC2 on Saturday 8th and It Ain't Half Hot Mum is noticeable by it's absence.

I couldn't resist repeating this post from the BBC Points of View MB:

David Croft arrives at the Pearly Gates to be met by St Peter
St Peter (looking at a large book)........And what's your name?
Someone shouts out.......Don't tell him Croft........

Very Happy

I'd much rather have IAHHM than the awful "Are You Being Served" anyday. If hear hear another word about Mrs Bloody Slocombe and he bloody pussy I'll kick the telly in. I hated that show.

Yes, it's Allo Allo, Are You Being Served, and Dad's Army (which would have been on anyway). No room for Come Back Mrs Noah, then!

I am surprised that hi-de-hi is not included, surely nobody can find it offensive. Shocked

I'm guessing they've simply dropped an hour-long show that was going to be on and put the two most popular of his sitcoms (that isn't Dad's Army, which - as I say- was already scheduled) in it's place.
