I heard an hour or so this morning and wasn't that impressed. I don't much like shows that need 2 presenters for a kick off, so that didn't help. I suppose I want someone to talk to me rather than the other person sitting opposite them in the studio..............

Shame they couldn't have had Richard Madeley on this week as well as I also thought he was good last week. Maybe they think he's too old now as well...........?

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with Chris Evans - it's just that he should be on another station.

I'd suggest CBBC.

Actually.....you know those "mobile" things that hang above a child's cot and play insignificant tunes for said child's entertainment?

I'm going to suggest that that maybe the upper limit of the CE demographic

I know what you mean there, Aitch. As Ken Bruce said in his book Tracks Of My Years, at worst it can seem like you're eavesdropping on people's private conversation.

While I too know no-one who likes him, surely the 8m listeners is a sign that "popular opinion" wants him on the station?

The fact that 8 million people tune in (note I did not use the word 'listen') in my view is simply because these days many of them either just can't stand silence or can't be bothered to alter their daily routine in an effort to find something better

I t reminds me of the situation with Tony Blair - he won three consecutive landslide elections but I don't know anyone who likes him or voted for him

It just shows the general level of intelligence of people in this country these days Rolling Eyes

I've got to say I enjoyed his R2 Saturday afternoon show and drivetime, certainly better than Dermot & Simon Mayo (his show is a bit dull).

I just cannot stand his breakfast show, it's just too loud etc at that time of day Rolling Eyes

I'm afraid I've practically given up on R2 nowadays. Putting these two on simply justifies my decision. Thanks, Mr Shennan, another 40-something driven away from "your" station, so the average age will drop by a tiny fraction once more.

Happy to nail my colours to the mast and say that I like Chris Evans' Breakfast Show. Haven't so far enjoyed Jon Holmes and Miranda Hart overmuch.

Ah well, it's back to "Today" and Smooth Radio next week. It's been good having Radio 2 on for breakfast this week, I've enjoyed MandJ, I know many of you haven't.

Must say I've changed my mind a bit and have quite enjoyed the show after all.
I'm lucky as we listen to R2 at work which gives you a chance to grow accustomed to people on the radio.
If I was at home I probably would have switched over and not given them a chance.
Also they've played some good music this week and aren't scared to play some older stuff too.

I've heard the last 90 minutes since Wednesday and the music wasn't bad. Back to the internet radio now though!

Having started this thread with a "why" I am prepared to apologise. It wasn't that bad and I will listen if they cover again. Back to Magic next week.

I thought Miranda Hart was utterly appalling. Singing over songs and going on and on about Strictly Come Dancing. She's also totally unfunny. I actually look forward to the ginger maniac returning.
The other bloke, who I've not heard of, was quite good though.

Chris Evans tweeted this morning that he has "zero say on who fills in!" - which sounds like he had a lot of people moaning at him about his stand-ins.

Well, to be fair, he has been doing his own shows (on various stations) for many years so has considerably more experience than Miranda.

The BBC has responded to complaints about Miranda Hart and Jon Holmes's recent stint on BBC Radio 2.

The pair, who have previously hosted comedy specials on the station, spent the past week standing in for Chris Evans, but some listeners were unhappy with the quality of the show.

In a statement, the BBC responded by saying: "Miranda Hart is one of the UK's best-loved comedians and BBC Radio 2 felt it appropriate to bring her warmth to its audience for a week. Jon Holmes is a highly experienced presenter from BBC Radio 6 Music.

"BBC Radio 2 is proud to be the home of many popular entertainers and presenters and as part of the network's scheduling, from time to time, the channel tries new presenters and styles of shows.

"BBC Radio 2 appreciates if their presentation wasn't to everyone's liking, but feels it's important to be able to bring new talent to its output and hopes its audience understands the importance of maintaining a breadth of content on the network."

Hart recently insisted that her sitcom Miranda isn't a middle-class comedy.

And when are the BBC going to respond to complaints about the drivel produced by the usual incumbent?

When there is drivel from Chris maybe they'll respond.
Great show today with loads of great Welsh music.
Didn't take long for Ken to ruin the mood with the same records yet again.

When he is not actually shouting and bawling at everyone Chris Evans plays some very good music, though I don't suppose he chooses it as he seems fairly ignorant about music. It was good to hear The Green Green Grass Of Home today.
I agree with Gazmando about the appalling music played by Ken Bruce. How many more times do we have to hear Don't You Want Me? (makes a change from all that gay disco rubbish I suppose). And surely Stairway To Heaven (played yesterday) is a little overplayed.

Sorry to nit pick but I don't think 'The Green Green Grass of Home' has any connection with Wales apart from the fact the hit version was sung by Tom Jones

I always thought that it was written in America about a prisoner on death row and certainly I'm sure I've heard Sir Tom comment to that effect

I suppose it would just be too much to hope for that our manic breakfast host actually played any music by the Manics - now that's what I call proper great Welsh music Very Happy

Heh. For me, there's always the moment when you switch the radio on (as I did yesterday) and think "ooh, this is good" before you realise that it's actually the fairly mediocre Stairway To Heaven which you've heard a million times before. I actually genuinely prefer the Rolf Harris version as it's got more life to it.
