The R2 website says that Sir Tim Rice is sitting in for Brian Matthew on SOTS this Saturday. This is contrary to what's in the Radio Times. Hope Brian is enjoying some holiday and nothing worse.

Ian.

If there's no mention of it in RT that suggests to me that it's an arrangement made at short notice - it could be down to illness but probably best not to speculate - no doubt all will be revealed on Saturday Confused

Johnnie Walker would have been a better choice. Hey this is a celebrity cover station.

Tim Rice would make an excellent presenter of SOTS. He is keen on the decade, and very knowledgeable and informative. So is Brian M of course, even if he is a bit obsessed with pre 1963.
Not sure about Johnny Walker who seems a bit vacuous and too concerned about being 'cool'.

Will have to 'listen again' to SOTS because of the rugby.

I enjoyed SOTS when Johnnie Walker presented it a few years ago

I suppose that might be because his input is mainly from around the time of the pirate era and afterwards with less concentration on the mediocre early 60's stuff

As for Sir Tim I'll certainly listen but I have my doubts Confused

Well I listened as usual and thought that generally the show was quite good

I thought that Tim's style of presentation was professional with very clear diction but I couldn't help thinking that it sounded as though he was reading from a script (which of course he was) and it reminded me of an early 60's newsreader type style which would not be out of place on Radio 3 today

Having said that I much prefer it to most of the gabbling rabble we now have on Radio 2 who talk incessantly about absolutely nothing (you all know who I mean)

It was Tim's first show and he certainly performed perfectly competently but I'll be glad to see Brian back and wish him well for a speedy recovery Smile

I thought he did quite well. Maybe a bit stilted but I can live with that, particularly after catching 5 minutes of La Ball just before it. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I enjoyed listening when JW sat in before. Some of the others who sat in were good too, if I remember, Joe Brown being one of them.

Joe Brown was much better at it, Tim Rice just sounded so slow.

Tim is sitting in again this week. Anyone heard what's wrong with Brian?
